This was a theory made late last night for someones paper on something or other. It was about Time travel/the beginning of the universe and all that wonderful stuff
Time Travel -The reason why it doesnt happen
blah blah blah--(it was rather wonderfully worded but I will skip to the fun facts)
Based on the theory that multiple realities can exist but that only a single reality is ever actually present
okay the act of traveling back in time will alter it by the mere act of your presence.. you displace particles change energy levels all that fun stuff
however small this might be it has changed the fabric of the universe and put it on a new course. atom A is now going in direction B at velocity D instead of C sort of thing. We will now call this Point of Change Alpha (PoC-Alpha) and are in Reality 2
your reality. the one where you built a time machine and started your crazy adventure and the atom was going a speed C no longer exists. you are now a displaced person as you can never return to the reality you started in. sure you can go back and most likely it will all appear very much the same except for that one atom going at Velocity D or if you went back and killed your parents sort of thing. But whatever happened it no longer affects you as your are displaced from Reality1. and whatever happened to you in reality 2 happened to your reality 2 self who then might build a timemachine and go back in time
the point being is you dont actually exist in reality 2 until PoC-Alpha occurs at which point nothing can change your existance as you have already altered the universe away from reality 1 and you cant go back. its a closed loop. POC-Alpha -reality 1 plays out ending basically with you jumping back to Alpha and diverting course to reality 2
now what if someone jumps back before PoC-Alpha. Call it beta. this can alter your existance as now we are experiencing someone elses reality(3) in this reality you created a time machine jumped back to Alpha altered to reality 2 in which other guy jumped back to Beta and switched it to reality 3 in which reality 1 your reality never actually happened so you dont exist outside of the other persons closed loop
so this gets us too the only way to keep existing in the primary reality and not a closed loop is get time travel to a point earlier then anyone else to the earliest moment in time
so now we got a bunch of people jumping to the earliest moment they can calculate. most of them screw it up and go to far back causing a bunch of mass and energy to exist all in the same spot at once... the big bang... those that were fractions of a second later looked around at the other displaced persons appearing and agreed among themselves that they probably shouldnt let anyone else jump back just in case they get closer to the big bang then them and cause them to stop existing
so in conclusion we have a bunch of displaced time travelers from closed loop realities pretty much making sure no one makes a time machine. not that its not possible just that they think it would be detrimental to themselves

Maybe, but i still disagree. A lot of folks only imagine what time travel would be like. They can only do this cause they dont risk the jump themselves. Assumption is the dangerous portion of these thought threads, intelligent though they may be. What if you met a time traveler who told you different. Would you believe him/her, or would you poo poo their credibility and try to ignore the essential facts they were to purport.Quote:

I bet that no matter what you do, it is all a part of what has already happened and therefore part of the big scheme of things. Dont plant that tree and you will find out that a bird ate some apples with seeds in them, and pooped out the seeds, when you were not looking, so therefore you did not change the timeline at all. and when you get back the dang ole' apple will still fall and bonk you on the head, causeing you to build a tremendously wonderful machine to use it for some useless activity.
