In all the time I spent coming up with and typing that time travel theory out, I never even considered that possibility. However, I never stated that what you said could not happen, because it would fall under the category of "observation."

Or at least it was intended to be.

Here the thread is labeled time travel. So I thought cool, lets read it and find out. What you basically described in your opening post is the grandfather paradox, which I saw someone else posted in here.

So this really isn't about time travel, it is about a paradox. What a shame, I was hoping someone could help me finish my device to help me travel back in time. You see, I have this old delorean out back with a flux capaciter, just need the right fuel.

That is a simple problem to solve, there have been recent breakthroughs with microwaves to remove friction from an airspace, if it can be done with air, why not in space where there is a vacuum. The amount of friction you are talking about in space is negligible and does not change the fact that space is a vacuum and you can achieve (theoretically) whatever speeds needed. The thing that is missing is the technology.

Bah. I had thought that my theory of time travel was new. Well, at least the Simpson's haven't done it yet....

The whole set of back to the future movies is totally flawed in so many ways. Eighty eight miles and hour plus flux capacitor = time travel to any time?!?!?

Yeah, it was flawed, because they were action comedies, not scientific documentaries. They were meant to entertain.

However if the flux capaciter created an intense magnetic field, the car would not have had to move at all. A big enough burst of pinpoint magnetic energy could possibly be enough to open a wormhole of some type and take you back in time or to alternate earths. Who knows.

It's at this point that I'm going to step in with another poorly-thought out hypothetical situation.

Say I travel back in time, to the time of the cavemen, and I observe them.
Now, one of the cavemen notices me, and sees me as a threat, so he tries to eliminate me. I kill him. BUT! It turns out he was one of my ancestors. Now, what happens. Does this spawn a paradox, or perhaps the universe rejects this possibility and creates circumstances where my murdering my ancestor did not disrupt the balance of the timestream?

It is still the same as the grandfather paradox.
