Why archers require 2 pop instead of 1?
... target practice!
Why scouts eat so much but run so fast?
... archers use them for target practice and they really need to be able to run very fast

because.... ITS A GAME!
if the unis were 1:1 on pop, w¡ll be really easy to got a really BIG Army..
Heh, funny thought for the archers...
but what about the Calveries 9 people? whats goin on over there?
gotta take care of the horses and the armor and weapons.
squires and stable boys and whatnot support staff.
What about the knight's family. He's gotta bring home the bacon to a wife and a kid or two. and maybe some of the staff have a family member or two
so for each cavalry on the field there's 8 people back in town that make it possible
just trying to come up with a rationale. personally I think 9 is too high. but meh. I'm sure it's for game balance reasons
well I heard somewhere that a siege engine is a horse unit because it is marched to battle being hauled by horses. Though it should be much higher speed if this is tru. Like the speed of a transport ...since a transport with a full load should be a similar weight to the various siege engines per horse.
So I suppose if 2 horses carry the ballista to the battlefield then you have to have the support staff for them, and the men to reload the ballista. and trained personnel to aim it.
5 people doesn't seem unreasonable
6 for a cataphract is quite ridiculous.
personally I do not see why the units have different upkeep of food/per population unit.
I believe infantry/archers should be 2 or 3 food per population unit and cavalry/catas and siege engines should be 5 food per population unit since they have horses to feed too
wellllllll i dont know about that one.
in Medival times, most of a Kings Lands where devoted to farming, and the producing of consumable goods (livestock, Barley and hops, ect ect)
but i think with half going to farming, (slightly more if not all lvl 10) you should be able to support 100,000 units (MIXED units) quite comfortably.... as many many kings of the past did this.
