If you ever see an alligator or crocodile, just sneak up on it and grab it around the mouth with one hand. The muscles for opening its mouth are extremely weak, so you can hold it shut easily. Just watch out for the death roll.
Or it diving underwater, or its tail or.....
And also sever the spine at the base of the neck, so it's paralyzed and can't death roll.
You know what? Skip the tail and the mouth, just cut its throat. Much easier.
Anyway........
Thats why you use a bang-stick, not joking- real name, or a shotgun shell at the end of a stick that when you smack the gator with the end of the shell, if goes off, and you hit it on the head.
6+ Feet? I go back to the gator I held. very soft.
I prefer my bang stick, its a shotgun shell, typically 12 or 20 gauge, very nice :D
If its on the head as it is designed to be, it won't ruin the meat, hide yes, and they are used by people with permits, which are required to hunt and kill gators, killing with out a permit means a $500 fine, and any vehicle the gator has been in is taken as well, or at least in some parts of the state, specifically near Olustee.
I submit, you know more than me in this subject.
You have first hand, the only time I've shot any gun has been at scout camp, and they only let us use 20 gauge, and only as often as needed for the badge, so not all that often for me, I was too good.
