The atom bomb anniversary

I'm posting this because apparently no one else will. Today marks the anniversary of the atom bomb. August 9th 1945-Nagasaki. Just a sad reminder that so many old fools believed in that much destruction of human lives. I hope we never ever do that again. Japanese people are a great culture.

Gee, I didn't know the anniversary of the first nuclear device used in war by humans falls under the "polotics" category, whatever polotics are.

God it's not really politics it's an anniversary of where millions of Japanese died :(

He's not talking about the bomb itself being political, he's talking about the TC's anti-bomb stance, which IMO is political. Of course one of the OT mods will have to have the final say on that.

Millions did not die, also it was a necessity. The japanese had declared they will never surrender nor will there be any peace. They were willing to cost both sides 100's of thousands of lives before they would be willing to give in.

So we dropped two bombs, both caused a death toll far less than there would have been if we hadn't. The projected numbers of lives both on the Japanese side and Allied side far outweighed the actual deaths created by the bombs.

He's got a point, the casualty figures for an invasion on the Japanese homeland was estimated to be in the millions.
