Ok, when I looked for the quote I was looking for I found two.

“It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than open one's mouth and remove all doubt.”
~ Samuel Johnson.

“It's better to stay silent and look a fool, rather than speak and remove all doubt.”
~ Mark Twain

They both are the same quote, the lower one is just shorter.

Wait, so Mark Twain stole Samuel Johnson's quote?

There's another one by Twain i believe something along the lines of
"when you argue with a fool soon the world will forget who is who"

I'm not sure you would call it "stolen" as you can't "claim" a quote after it has been altered.

It becomes an indirect quote but he could've stolen the meaning
