isn't that what its saying not to do?
*facepalm*
If you say so.
The point of the quote, is something along the lines of this.
Let us start by breaking the quote into two separate sections.
1) "Don't marry the person you can live with" The intention of this quote is simple, and to the point. It is pointing out the fundamental errors that most couples have in there relationship, and the reason behind why the divorce rate is currently so high in America. That reason is, they feel, Oh I love this person, I can live with them I can spend the entirety of my life with them. Then something happens somewhere along the line, that causes there lives to become upturned and to change in a fashion to where the people in the relationship could not adapt too.
2) The second part though indicates what we should do instead with our lives. That is, we should marry the person we cannot live without. The person that can not only adapt to any situation with us, but can adapt and help us through any situation.
~L
well when you put it that way it makes sence
Exactly, Logrus.
Marry the person you truly love, not someone you think you love.
Don't marry for money, looks, or anything like that. Marry someone because you love who they are.
who they are now, who they might be, or who they will be with you??
no one stays the same forever
Waits for a new quote, part of this is what I was thinking about going to college for...
Haha, ok. New quote coming up. This one is for humor.
"My Mama always said, 'Life was like a box of chocolates; you never know what you're gonna get.'"
~ Forrest Gump 1994
That quote unfortionately incorporates a logical falacy in it, as it ofrces you to assume that the box of chocolates is an assorted variety pack. But again the general meaning of the quote is rather simple.
It simply stated and reworded means that, in going through life you are going to have things come to you, some will be bitter, some will be sweet, some will have nuts in them that you may or may not like. But in the end, life is one giant amount of something sweet and delicious, and it like all things will come to an end.
However, if you really want to you can take the analogy further if you so desire, and you can even look at it, this way. If you decide you want to shove the chocolate in your mouth and get the most joy out of it as you can, you will end up getting sick. In the same vein, if you go through life, drinking, doing drugs, and the various other negative vice's in life, you will end up sick, if not dead.
Great breakdown, L.
Thanks, the problem really with that quote though, is that you can take the analogy in a lot of different directions, depending on your philisophical background, and your style of thinking, IE free association, linear, etc.
i've never liked that quote and i think i just figured out why. i'm Very picky about my chocolates. and 90% of what comes in an assorted box i give away or throw out because i dont like it. so in a straight accross comparison i would not like 90% of what life has to offer
Uh.. ok? Please keep discussion about the quote at hand.
are we going to get a new quote or what??
Anger is an acid that can do more harm to the vessel in which it is stored than to anything on which it is poured.
Mark Twain
