City Defense, what you need to know.
Your main city is the city you started with, this will most likely have the most improvements and highest levels, it would behoove you to try to hang on to it.image No one can take your city if you have just one, but as soon as you build a new one, you must make sure that your main city is well protected.
There are many posts in the public forum which talk about battle mechanics but i will state which is best for your cities defense. This is not comprehensive nor do i claim to be 100% accurate, but i hope that the rest of you will state your opinions and contribute as well.
If you only read one blog in the forum it would be my suggestion that you read the blog on archery. So much of the games depends on battles and war to further progression and, no element of war is more important in Civony than archery.
Try to concentrate on defense of your city early on and continue to do so throughout the game. If you want your army to fight the oncoming horde, open your gates, but the biggest reason you want some one not to attack you is not because of the size of your army, but because of the strength of your fortifications. This is even more true with beginning players. Players who have been on a little longer and have more barracks will usually be able to make bigger armies quicker.
It is a common belief that if you want to make your city wall defenses strong, build archery towers. They have a long range and will often take out the enemy before they can even get to you. Plus, in direct contrast to other defenses they arent a one time use thing. Roll logs have a tremendous amount of range but can only be used once. Archery towers can be used to defend over and over. They will save your resources and save your city.
Walls themselves have no value other than to look pretty. All that they provide is a durability rating, which i have seen no data on so it must be negligiable, and spaces for fortifications. Yeah, those lvl. 9 walls look nice, but do you have the resources to build 45,000 fortifications?
One other thing attacking players hate is the abitis. The only thing that is good agianst them are calvery. Calvery and cataphracts are expensive. They can be a very good deterrent. The only drawbacks with them are that they have a one time use.
Researching the archery skill in the academy boost your towers as well as your archers, effectively each 5% boost in this skill gives your archers and your towers an extra attack each battle. I hope you see the usefulness of this.
A strong offense is a good defense. If you are well defended, I wont have to hear about how someone is plundering you all day. You will be able to stand by yourself, and be less fearfull of reprisals from weaker and less intellegent and orginiazed alliances. You will be able to attack with huge armies, secure in knowing that when they get mad at you and attack back. You will have a good laugh at seeing how many die against the might of your defenses.
Carry on
