Oink Oink.
soon we're gonna have penguin flu.
oh really?
*runs around screaming*
THE SWINE FLU WILL KILL US ALL!!!! HEAD FOR THE HILLS!!!!
*continues to run and scream*
All the high schools in my area are closed till Monday because of it. Apparently waiting 3 days will fix things. Why didn't anyone do this before????
Still my college believes its student's lives are worthless and they must continue to go to class. Least my classes are over, lol
You don't get the Swine Flu from consuming pigs at all. It is a mutated strain of Avian Flu and Influenza A, and the only way to get it is if someone(or a pig) sneezes or coughs in your general direction. It is person to person, or person to pig, contact.
As for you saying that everyone is going to die from Swine Flu, that isn't true at all. Major laboratories in all affected countries have already started on a vaccine, and it should be ready, at least in Australia, for initial distribution within 2 months, and for complete nation-wide cover in 6 months.
And plagues are good for society. The old and weak are killed (byebye Florida), there is a distribution of power, and more resources are freed up for everyone. A plague could help stop global warming, drop oil prices, and, in the long run, help the global economy.
Not to say it would be GOOD, but either disease or widespread birth control are the only ways to save society.
Edit: I wouldn't be too sure about vaccination, either. Sure, in developed countries, but poorer ones won't be able to afford huge amounts of it.
Wow Zenrax. That's pretty cold but logical of you.
I don't know though. Africa has a huge AIDS epidemic, and it's certainly not helping with their society.
Swine flu is no more dangerous then any other particularly virulent flue strain. It just has a fancy name and spreads well. We get super flues pretty often, people forget that lots of people die from flu every year. It is very common. Swine flu is just the Media panic tactic of the moment. I guess the economy is not causing enough panic anymore.
Adine, there may not be any proof, but if memory serves me right, an old philosopher(who's name escapes me right now) said something along these lines.
"The world's population will never reach its max point, for war, famine and disease[or plagues] will keep it low, and help for the betterment of man kind"
While death in itself, on a personal level, is never a good thing. Sometimes, if you have the mindset and are able to see the "big picture" a few thousand people dieing will, in the end, help the long run of society.
im focusing more on the last sentince than the first one
Think of it in this manor.
Lots of People = Global Warming, high oil prices, and bad economy
With less people, you have less people driving cars, which means lower oil prices. Less need for factories to run, which means less CO2 emission, less global warming. Less money being spent needlessly, meaning the economy settles to something easier to deal with and fix.
last i checked CO2 is a good thing which plants thrive on . Acording to NOAA there is also only about .36% of CO2 in the make up of the atmosphere so it would have little to no impact whatsoever .
most people who die of the flu are considered to be the high risk population which are either too young or too old to be driving in the first place. Never mind if you think that would have anything to do with gas prices you are sadly mistaken. maybe if a couple 100K died it might but thats not likely to happen with the speed vacines are made . the economy doesent really give a rats who dies or how many it only cares about whats on the horizon. OPEC has a much larger impact on the price of gas than the amount of cars on the road
An epidemic of any sort will always affect oil and gas mate...
People quit driving places as much because they don't want to catch things. It happens every time. Its never a huge impact, but there is one about every single time.
Personally I could care less about this flu. It ruined my weekend. My mom and brother were supposed to be gone for the weekend through Sunday, and then they had to come home because of the frickin flu... gr....
Madagascar has closed it's airports?
Lol at the Pandemic 2 reference.
Nooooo! Now I'll never infect the entire world!
Silly human. Terminators run on the blood of their victims, not gasoline.
*hefts I-beam, hurls at Draz*
I have proof! Look at what happened after the Black Death swept through Europe! Because there were less mouths to feed, hunger all but disappeared, while farmers could start growing luxury crops in their extra space, things like Grapes and Olives. Which boosted their profits.
In fact, I'm willing to bet that if it wasn't for the Black Death, the Renaissance wouldn't have happened.
yes im sorry however, one of the best ways to boost the global economy is by good old war, mass death. i know it sounds bad and i dont like to see people die however it does open up the work force. it does make the gov. spend monies on food and equipment. my brother lost his job, the whole plant shut down due to not enuff food needed to send to soilders( they made M.R.E's). 500 people lost their jobs over this small issue, now the city is hurting and people are going out of the area for work....it snowballs.
with less people to feed, farmers can produce better crops and more luxury crops.
with less people to work, more jobe are available.
anyway it might not be the only way, or the best way..however, it does work and it does work quickly.
The other way would be if we mass colonized another planet, but that solution is very far away as far as I'm concerned.
Last year over 6,000 people died of the Influenza the flu is the flu.Theirs all types of strands of it its always growing stronger .But the government wants you to be afraid.Oh no 150 cases Influenza what about their preexisting health conditions these people may already have ,Who knows if any of the people do or do not have HIV OR AIDS.Or just a weak immune system. NO WORRIES :D
Lol. We wont die by swine flu. But we will all die in the solar storm. Go to www.nasa.gov and search solar storm. Have fun. =D
It's now been renamed. It's the whine flu now, as in "whine about the swine flu which is now renamed the whine flu" flu.
Oh my, how to not die by the swine flu DO WHAT MOMMY USED TO TELL YOU AND WASH YOUR HANDS AND COVER YOUR MOUTH WHEN YOU SNEEZE OR COUGH... Jeeze... But seriously, while its not the happiest thought in the world, to quote Ebineezer scrooge sometimes it is just a good idea to decrease the surplus population not intentionally mind you but... I mean some of the greatest innovations come out of suffering and times of trial after all. Think of it this way... Civony is the world, there are active members, (good healthy people who wash there hands eat well etc) and then there are the people that spam, creat innactive accounts, and in general act like trolls, (the people of the world that just make me wonder how they ever survived and how as a society we evolved, and don't wash there hands or do what mommy says etc sit on the couch all day you get the point) well then eventually sooner or later the world slows down till the server (the world) is threatened with crashing, as a result the Administrators (or swine flu, sorry no offence meant to the developers etc) comes through like thief in the night killing off all the things that cause the world to slow down and then we wake up the next day, saddened to see that some people who were friends but went innactive are gone, our favorite person to farm is no longer there, but at the same time happy because the world is now progressing forward and not lagging.
Tah dah...
Wow.. do you seriously think that the swine flu is like a plaque... wow... just wow... Seriously people are way over paranoid.
No I think that its influenza h1 n1, a strain of a particularly nasty virus, which originally almost brought the world to its knees do I think that it will do it again no not at all. I just enjoy long winded metaphors.
Agreed -- the worst Flu pandemic (the 1919 Spanish Flu) had a mortailty rate of 2-4 % of infeceted patients -- extremelty high for Flu. but palrty compared to the back death. which had:
30-70% for bubonic plague
90-95% for Pnuemonic Plague (still has a 10-15% mortality rate today)
100% for Septicemic Plague (which still has a 100% rate today)
Or Small Pox which had:
30-35% mortality rate for V. Major strain -
And an estimated 80-90% mortality rate among native Americans and Meso-Americans.
