When I was a kid, " anticonstitutionellement " was reputed to be the longest word in the French dictionary, although I'm sure that's changed now. That was LONG ago...
logrus is not very long but for me it means fear. Just plain fear.
Well call me a smart fart but I would think "longest" would be the *longest* word. LOL
For my daily quiz i came across this place name:
Taumata-whakatangihanga-koauau-o-Tamatea-haumai-tawhiti-ure-haea-turi-pukaka-piki-maunga-horo-nuku-pokai-whenua-ki-tana-tahu
It's a hill in New Zealand, in its original Maori naming, translated as:
The hill of the flute playing by Tamatea — who was blown hither from afar, had a circumcised *****, grazed his knees climbing mountains, fell on the earth, and encircled the land — to his beloved
Antidisestablishmentarianism.
It's a word. It's real long. And it has a neat meaning.
floccinaucinihilipilification
"action or habit of estimating as worthless," 1741, a combination of four Latin words (flocci, nauci, nihili, pilifi) all signifying "at a small price" or "for nothing," which were listed together in a rule of the well-known Eton Latin Grammar. The kind of jocular formation that was possible among educated men in Britain in those days. Just so, as in praesenti, the opening words of mnemonic lines on conjugation in Lilley's 16c. Latin grammar, could stand alone as late as 19c. and be understood to mean "rudiments of Latin."
Also note that while it is 29 letters long, not a single one of them is the letter e.
Yeah, OK, I'll grant you that. But even though the roots are Latin, this is still an English word, and for something this long to pass by without a single E in the English language is quite a feat, I think.
Felicio
thats pretty long right? its like 4 syllables
Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysilio gogogoch, but it is occasionally broken into two words after the 20th character, but it means: "St. Mary's Church in the hollow of the white hazel near to the rapid whirlpool of the church of St. Tysilo near the Red Cave" in Welsh
pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis (45 letters) and its a lung disease caused by breathing in certain particles) is the longest word in any English-language dictionary. (It is also spelled -koniosis.)
