The thing i like to do, if an attack is coming. Load all my resources in transports and send them off on an ATTACK to a NPC about 10-30 miles away. I send them marching about 10 mins before the attack hits and recall after its all done with. If the attacker is sending more then 1 wave of attacks at you, you may have to send your transports a longer distance before recalling them. Just be carefull. Your transports must NEVER reach the NPC you sent them too. If they do, you lose everything. This tactic can use alot of food. The game will deduct food from your resources to feed the troops on the march, depending on how many transports you use and the distance to your target. It does not matter if you only go 10mins out and then recall on what would be a 1hr march. You pay for the entire distance.

awesome guide. this will help. only thing is, I've got about 1k warriors, and only 500 or so archers, 5 scouts (i didn't think about killing other scouts) 50 swordsman, 60 pikemen, 50 cavalry, and 1 or 2 days left in my protection, and lvl 1 embassy.
on the good side, I do have about 6 nearby allies, 2 already out of Protection, and one of those right next to me.
Hey doesn't it also work if I just get all my troops to transport all my resources to some ally city?

It does give you a warning that you will lose Protection if you upgrade your Town Hall past lvl 5. And just attack the friggin flat, that is how you conquer.

To save your troops, you don't need to hide them in valleys, just close the gate.

Keep your troops behind closed gates if you can't win. At least after his big wave, he dare not rush 40 waves of 1000 cavs at you to "zero" you out. He has to prepare against you opening the gate on his weaker waves if he does.
