Annoy your attacker. Load up your transporters with your food etc. Then send them on an attack towards your attacker. Set camp time for 100 hours of course, and they'll be able to see millions of food or whatever you are hiding from them, but be unable to touch it.
If by some fluke, they take the city, then you'll lose the stuff, but you would have lost it anyway. In the meantime, they'll know that they're not getting your good stuff, because it's stuck between you two. You can always recall it before it hits them, and get it back in a few hours.
Psychologically speaking, they know you have it, but it's infuriatingly close, but still untouchable.

This kid's noob guide would just get you killed. Why waste time building storage units anyway? Could've built barracks and had troops ready to defend an attack.
-
well then, if this noob guide is inaccurate, perhaps you would be so kind as to share a better set of tactics or guide.
Disparaging is easy - even moreso without anything to back it up.
I for one find the information of use. If you have what you feel is superior or more useful information, instead of knocking down a 'noob' perhaps you can spend quite a few more keystrokes to explain how your approach is a better one?
To the OP, I understand the market issue that the resources have to be SOLD to not be plundered, but am a little hazy on the BUY mechanics to avoid losing your gold.
Are you saying it is a timing event?
That you wait until the attacker is 15 or 20 min away from you, then BUY back as much of your resources as you can?
Or simply place ridiculously low bids? I mean I see the intent would be to tie up the gold in a pending transaction, but if that doesn't work on selling resources, would it work on keeping your gold safe when buying?
Or do you actually have to have completed the purchased to have the gold used up?

did you actually read that part?

Not sure if anyone has mentioned this but what I do is send as much resources and all money to closest valley of mine with a short camp time and just recall after attack. If I am being attacked constantly at night when offline, before I log I send all to valley with a 12 hour camp time. ;)

What to do with Army
Ok, well I took most of the advise given on here and either diverted all my resources to my other city or built up my warehouse. I did however, leave my troops behind with an open gate. My attacker wasn't bringing much (or I thought) as it was only 100 transporters and 300 ballistas. I on the other hand hand 1000 traps, 100 abastis, 200 archer's towers, 800 swords dudes and 200 warriors. Of course, I lost all of them and he lost nothing.
My question, is what would have happened to my city if i would have removed all of my troops as well, leaving my city with nothing but my buildings? What would he take, the whole city?

basically there a few things wrong with this guide and i am not criticising but i am going to explain how i defend my cities. but first im going to go over the things i totally disagree with.
1.dont build a 1000 traps what a waste of wall space. i giggle when i see players with 3000 traps. 1000 rockfall and 1000 logs with only 3k A'Ts and normally mail them saying, say hello to my little friends when i send 20k warriors smashing into them.
2.dont build swordsmen they totally useless unless you like expensive meat shields.
3. only build 1 warehouse for the quest they are practically useless unless you have alot of them. which would take out valuable barracks spaces.
Wall Defences.
1. build 1 trap. this gives you the 5k range start bonus and gives your AT's (archer towers) much more rounds for your AT's to waste your enemies.
2. fill the rest of the wall with AT's every thing else is pretty much useless as they can only be used once, even with machinery fully upgraded you only get a max of 30 percent of traps back.
3. when your starting off i think it is essential to make sure you obtain walls level 3 and archery lvl 3. as Archer tower production is essential to this game.
4. When you have enough resources its essential that you increase your wall level and your archery to give your Archers/Towers the best possible starting range.
SafeGuarding resources
1. build your own transports and move all your resources to ether your valleys, or other cities (or you can even send them to an ally member, just make sure you tell him/her what your sending there way.)
2. Build a high level relief station gets resources there faster
3. If your new to the game i suggest a high leveled embassy in each of your towns and always allow garrison troops (theres been many times where i cudnt help my alliance members due to them being offline and being hit because of this. Also not reinforcing allied members can only use there troops to fight for you if your gates are open too)
4. ESSENTIAL always make sure you have a high level beacon tower in every city this could be the difference between thinking theres millions of everything coming your way when all hes sending 100 warriors.
NOTE: If you do move your resources to valleys make sure you use camp time in your rally point. make sure it returns right after your attack, dont leave it there overnight or a lengthy space of time basically and also note that it costs yourself more food upkeep once in your valley but not in another of your cities so sending it to another city is more adviseable.
Army:
As you will hear many many many times over Archers are the gods of this game simply because of range so build as many of these as your starting off. and once you reach a decent amount say 30k Archers click keep gates open. (4-5 weeks into the server aim to get this amount minium).
Scouts: no one likes to go in blind. so build many of these little bugga's preferably later on in the server keep 130k plus in your capital (means no one can effectively scout you first time now) as the max anyone can send is 125k scouts.
but starting off id aim to gain a minium of 10k scouts.
Layering: what i love to do is build one of every thing before an attack happens and click open gates its only a theory but im sure it works (havent done the maths) to counter act the attackers rainbow attempt (sending 1 of each unit type)
In answer to your question donutt, you would lose an amount of loyality, your resources plundered and your public greifance increased just like it would if you lost any attack. however sometimes you can win if someone is stupid enough to send an army that cant defeat your walls in 100 rounds.
i hope this clears everything up and remember guys if it wasnt for people giving out guides then who would we learn from i award anyone who does with rep, :) at least there trying to help new people into the game :)

I used all my 500 coins on amulets... took me 5 hours... and got a ton of sweet stuff, including lots of medal boxes....
