I very much agree Kitty. Growing up in a French community, I was extensively exposed to Cousteau's documentaries( our television probably ran them all... and several times each!). A superb explorer who made the sea his domain.

In a totally different vein, let me add the name of MARTIN LUTHER to our list. The importance of protestantism to the devellopement of modern western society ( or is that civillisation Boleslav?!) may still be underestimated to this day.
