I always like the story of Prometheus. How he stole fire from Zeus and gave it to mankind. How, as punishment, Zeus ordered him to be chained to mountain where a great eagle tore his liver out each and every day.
I know he isn't a 'god', but a Titan... but he's still my favorite.
In Greek mythology, Prometheus (Ancient Greek: Προμηθεύς, "forethought") is a Titan, the son of Iapetus and Themis, and brother to Atlas, Epimetheus and Menoetius. He was a champion of human-kind known for his wily intelligence, who stole fire from Zeus and gave it to mortals.Zeus then punished him for his crime by having him bound to a rock while a great eagle ate his liver every day only to have it grow back to be eaten again the next day. His myth has been treated by a number of ancient sources, in which Prometheus is credited with – or blamed for – playing a pivotal role in the early history of humankind.
I have read dozens of books about greek mythology, gods and goddesses. I have to agree, I have never heard that either.
It's cool if you got things mixed up, I think some of us would be interested in reading about him being a human if you are not mixed up. As mythology seems to always be an interesting subject to most people.
the book is in my house but i have no idea where
I believe he was a Titan. I, too, have never heard of him being a man. Then again, I'm only a teenager.
Zen, you probably read that he created the humans and gave them fire.
If I recall correctly, Uranus, the father of Cronos created mankind. Althoug Zues altered man during his reign.
Here is a bit about Zeus changing man.
According to another story the gods created man, and man existed on earth while the Titan Cronus ruled. The first race of men lived in complete happiness. During that Golden Age men were free from pain, toil, and old age. Dying was as easy as falling asleep. They enjoyed the fruits of the earth in plenty. And once this race had died out these mortals remained as spirits to protect men from evil.
Then the gods created the men of the Silver Age, who were far inferior. These men remained children for a hundred years under the dominance of their mothers. And when they finally matured they died off shortly because of their foolishness. In this age men had to work, and the year was divided into seasons so that men knew cold and heat. Crime and impiety also had their beginnings in this period, so Zeus put an end to this race.
Next Zeus created the men of the Bronze Age out of ash spears. These men were mighty, tall, and ferocious, a violent race of warriors who worked in metal and produced a few rudiments of civilization. In the end these men destroyed themselves with their warfare.
The next period was the Heroic Age, a time of notable heroes and deeds. Heracles and Jason, Theseus, and the great men of the Trojan War existed then. As a tribute to them Zeus established the Elysian Fields as a resting place for their spirits after death.
Still not discouraged, Zeus created the men of the Iron Age, the worst race ever to appear on earth and one destined to become totally depraved. Hard work, trouble, pain, and weariness were the lot of this group of men, which still exists. At the last the gods will totally abandon this vicious race, leaving it in utter pain.
At one time Zeus was so thoroughly disgusted with man and his impious, evil ways that he decided to annihilate the species with a deluge. Prometheus, who was still at large then, warned his son Deucalion to prepare a chest. When the rains began to fall Deucalion and his wife Pyrrha climbed into the chest, which was loaded with provisions, and they floated on the ocean that drowned the rest of the world. After ten days the flood subsided, and the chest came to rest on Mount Parnassus. When they emerged, Deucalion and Pyrrha offered a sacrifice to Zeus and asked him to restore the human race. The couple also went to Delphi and prayed to the Titaness of Justice, who told them to cast the bones of their mother behind them. At first this command mystified them, but Deucalion had an inspiration. His mother's bones must be the stones that lay upon the earth, for the earth had given birth to mankind. As Deucalion started casting stones behind him they became men, and as Pyrrha cast stones behind her they became women. In this manner the human race was reborn.
Well,
Prometheus, of forethought, was the creator of mankind.
He thought to long and hard about what to make his creation into, but his brother, Epimetheus, or Afterthought, created all the animals. But by the time he had finished making mankind, he realzed that Epimetheus had taken all the good parts (fur, claw, etc). So his creation was dying. then Prometheus decided to steal fire from the hearth on olympius, gave it to man, then he was tortured by being tied to a rock and having an eagle peck out his liver every day.
But Abra, your version is another accepted version. It depends on what you look at.
It's been so many years that I read about myths and gods and goddesses, so for some items I had to go read to refresh my memory lol
lol dont worry that is just old age catching up to you, jk
Ok, Ok. Lets try to get back on topic please.
zeus and hercules(does he count) and athena
zeus was always chasing after women i found that funny
hercules because he was a good man really dumb but still a good man-god ,also i feel bad for him because he accidently slew his family (reason why i hate hera)
athena was wise and fair and she helped oddesyus (sp?) and he is the shiz
Hercules was a demi-god, and a prominent part of the Greek Pantheon, so I'd say he does count.
Athena wasn't the only one to help Odysseus. There was a great number of gods involved in the Siege of Troy, many of which (Poseidon for one) played a crucial part. Poseidon himself made the Trojan work by killing the man who said it was a trap.
god of war? seriously, it's just a game ^_^
I don't know much of greek gods.
but I do like one, Hades the god of fire and underworld.
One I very much like is Horus. he is an egyptian god with a head of an eagle.
he is the god of all seeing eye, he can heal.
the son of Iris and Osiris

ted called 911.
the conversation went like this.
911 operator : 911 what's your emergency?
ted : my friend just dropped dead.... (hysterical)
911 operator : ok, calm down. first make sure he is dead.
(ted drops the phone, then the operator hears a gun shot)
ted : ok (gasping for air) what do I do next?
PU239 = Plutonium highly seductive
Given the above I'd have to say that my favorite is Xena: Warrior Princess. Consider the following: Uses all weapons with lethal efficiency, leads hoards of warriors into battle, practices deadly martial arts with a final death touch move, she's totally hot, knows dark magic, best friends with the king of thieves and Hercules, goes toe to toe with the god of war, returns from the dead, kills gods, and travels with her faithful blond lo- ...er... friend saving the world. She even reincarnates in later generations to keep up the good fight! Is there anything she can't do? :p
But seriously, I love Athena.
Goddess of Wisdom
Patron deity of Athens
Sheltered Odysseus (my personal hero)
She's the best :)
is xena greek?
just asking ^_^

i always wondered the relevance of 2 greek gods of war
athena plays more significance in most lore like the story of the warriors dying with ravens on their shoulders
i cant seem to find any of my mytholigy books i know i have 1 ive read recently early this year but i did find a spider man novel
urban-legend
i never knew they were lo- ...er... friends
shouldnt be surprised the greeks did swing that way
Yes, she was born and raised in Greece and did most of her plundering and heroics there...
Oh yes, although it is never explicitly stated, it is made rather clear if you are observant that the pair are very... um... "special friends." I could launch into a lengthy explanation (and I really want to 'cause I'm crazy like that) but given the forum rules I'll refrain.
