I'd like to add that with 9 archery 5 HBR, you can safely farm levels 1,2, and 4 with the numbers listed in the original posts (I haven't gotten a chance to test level 3 but I would guess it's still safe too). You DO suffer light casualties at level 5s. Thanks for putting this info together it's great. One other piece of advice - if you have HBR too high, you can base out of a city with a lower academy level that gives you archery and no HBR to safely farm. Don't know how often that comes up, but one of my allies was doing this since had an unsafe combination of archery and HBR.
Using this quide is the best way to get medals.
I had tried everything i could find related to medals, none of it worked.
Then i started spam attacking a valley 1 mile from my town with 9 attacks/wave in quick succession, abandoning the valley between each attack. that is the only thing that works.
One thing that this guide says that i disagree with. It says to make a lvl 8 hall and appoint a hero as mayor....dont do this, when you are farming medals. Sure you will lose resources, but if your goal is medals, do not appoint a mayor, then you have 1 more hero to attack with and can attack quicker.
1) It doesnt matter if you conquor a valley, however a newly abandoned valley = 100% regened, so you can be sure your next attack will be against a fully spawned valley, which does help.
2) It doesnt matter if there is a hero at the valley that you fight against.
3) It doesnt seem to matter if you take losses or dont take losses.
The only thing that does matter is attacks/time. The more attacks you can make the more medals you will get. So whatever you can do to get the largest number of attacks in will bring you the most medals. And thats the method in the first post of this thread. 9 attacks/round in quick succession on a valley that is 1.0 mile from your city. Repeat over and over and over and over and over.
Same thing for NPC cities it seems, there is no magic bullet that ive found for getting medals. Just launching 100s of attacks against them, which takes a lot longer then the valleys.
I used the above to get all my cross, rose, and lion medals.
To get honor and courage ive been spamming npc cities. Ive gotten most of my honor and courage metals now just a couple more left.
Havent gotten any wisdom medals yet, but havent attacked past lvl 4 npc cities, so thats the next step i guess, find a quick way to kill lvl 5s.

I sent 1100 ballistas and lost all of them.... there were under 200 rockfalls when the attack took place.
I know my HBR isn't 8, and not 9, but that shouldn't cause a complete loss of troops if they still haven't recouped from the 7 waves of warriors, should it?
I've tried 2800 ballistae straight up, and they lost (even with rainbow squad escorting), and my layered attack attempt I went overboard from everything that was reported, but only a bit, still I've lost over 4k ballistae in 3 days on attempts, just in the past 3 days, and I still can't seem to succeed in a single attack on a lvl 6 npc.
Any possible way this, or any of the dozens of other similar posts, could get a sticky? I'm pretty sure its a hot and important enough topic

Oh yeah I forgot to say. This post in summary says:

Number of attacks matters at least 20 times more than anything else.
It takes around 100 attacks to get your rose medal. But that could be 2 or 400. There is alot of luck involved, but mostly it just takes alot of attacks.

It is not possible to zero loss at all. I find farming 6's is only profitable when they are 5mi or less. Currently, my east branch has the following headed to a level 6 landing in 26m (food cost for dispatch = 1964113):
4754 warriors (just to kill them off - part of my troop testing for effective meat)
77851 archers
12537 ballistas
3561 catapults
1297 transporters
They are being led with a 126att hero. I have done this with my 175att hero and experienced similar results. I am fully teched out. I will post the report when it lands. I expect all of the wars to die and between 1200-1500 archers to die.

I have been working the balance between wars and archers. Depending on the defending NPC hero I can sometimes get away with losing less than a thousand archers when sent without the wars but with the same mech count.
Archer losses = 1733 * 4225gp` = 6337500gp
Warrior losses = 2105 * 1043gp = 2195515
Cure cost = 150 archers * 75 = 11250gp
Food cost to dispatch = 1964113 * 3.5 = 6874396gp
Total Loss: 15,418,661gp
Total haul from full lvl6 NPC:
4m food = 14m gp
200k lumber = 1m gp
200k stone = 20k gp (if you're lucky)
200k iron = 1.25m gp
600k gold
Tallying this up:
Haul Worth = 16,852,000gp
Losses + Cure = 15,418,661gp
Total gain = 1,433,339gp
Conclusion:
It is slightly profitable to attack lvl6 if you are also using archers to buffer your mechs.

Food: 3.5
Lumber: 5
Iron: 5.25
Stone: 0.1
