Communication. I strongly believe Evony can only grow more successful with an engaged playerbase. To engage players, Evony will have to communicate with them. We don't need to know every detail, but knowing an issue is being addressed goes a lot further than not saying a word to the players on w51 who have been locked out of the server for three hours, for example.
No. Maybe the good advocates could get paid in game cent donations from the players! LOL "All your game cents are belong to me."
Evony needs to hire a real staff of customer service representatives. (not people who play evony, but people looking for a real job)
Ironic how the biggest "troll" the Evony forums has ever known is submitting an idea for improved communication. From an account that is bypassing a forum ban nonetheless.
An "Advocate" would still have to talk to a Rep about a multitude of issues, so it wouldn`t save anyone time or improve efficiency.
All that has to be done is the Evony reps and Mods continuing to be more outspoken about sensitive issues. That`s it.
Mods are already middle people like you have "proposed". They forward gameplay issues to Evony staff. If its not met in a timely matters then that is an issue with the attitude of the staff, or simply a lack of staff to meet the demand.
I`d reason that 50% of the "8 million accounts" are only people who clicked because of the boobs. I`ll reason even further and state that I believe that 75% the forum activity related to gameplay is people bewildered about the outcomes of battles, wall range bonus, etc. The combat system is illogical and broken. The only serious issues are people who pay for game cents and don`t receive them.
Not much an "advocate" can do there. So thumbs down from me.
Indeed.
They have to care more about the quality of their product and less about the potential money it can generate if they delay improvements. They could of fixed the combat system already.
It`s the same everywhere, except for businesses who put top emphasis on quality. String along the current product and get as much money out of it before the next generation product arrives. It`s called product cycles.
Second lesson in business (MGT 102 :p): Any business which put profits second to any other aspect of their business is going to fail because maximizing profits is just that critical. Maximizing profits includes mitigating losses; reducing costs and overhead and eliminating waste.
With Evony, you have an affodable product (free!) with decent tech support (it's there and functioning). Are there failings? Sure, every business fails to perform in some aspects. Overall, Evony is doing well though.
You mentioned the combat system. Do you have any idea of how many times adjustments have been made to the combat mechanics? Loads! Clearly, they are trying to do something. Sometimes, it seems like they are trying to goof up the mechanics on purpose; however, a realistic assessment of the attempts made would suggest otherwise. :D
As long as we are dealing with the "realities" of the game, let's go back in time to Civony (beta). The biggest mistake made, IMHO, was when Evony tried to placate too many players early on. The consequences led to more issues and a lot more discontent. Had the Civony Team stood their ground and kept to their vision, Evony would be a different game today. So, in a sense, early players (of which many of us are/were) as guilty of wanting too many changes to soon which Civony was too willing to make.
Now, we have to deal with what we have. The Suggestion Box is full of potential fixes and they do get read. Keep in mind, and I know I am going to irritate some folks by bringing this up, Age 2 is in the works. Evony, the company, must delegate resources to Age 2, so logically, we must assume changes to Age 1 will slow down. For most people, change can't come fast enough though, and I understand that.
Knowing Evony is still a small company, where would you allocate their limited resources if you had the authority to make the call?
Just have to point this out as well. Businesses that put profits first to such a huge degree also fail. Look at America's housing market. Thats proof enough there. So many businesses saw how sub-prime loans were producing huge profits that they disregaurded common sense and made thousands of bad loans. Just saying, profits can't be all a company looks at. Works for short term, but hurts in long term. Just saying lol. Car companies prove this as well to. Of course you always put profits on your mind, but you cannot grow without raising expenses. Just had to point that out Kemp. Otherwise, that's all I have to say.
Actually, the Fair Housing Act forced banks to make those loans. They didn't see huge profit potentials in the loans. Anyway, the mortgage insurers took the hit not the banks.
as much as I would like to respond to this, I better not. We are drifting off into politics now, and we shouldn't go there. Let me just say that my mother works in Home loans, so I know more of what occured with that. but yes, time to get back on topic.
