barbie to be banned in west virginia?
America's most popular doll, Barbie, is celebrating the big 5-0 today. Since her creation on March 9, 1959, she has experienced fifty years of dream houses, pink convertibles, romance ups and downs with Ken and testing the waters of every profession imaginable.
Unfortunately, Barbie's big day may not be celebrated in West Virginia. Matter of fact, Barbie will be nowhere to found in this Appalachian state - a local lawmaker is using his influence to pass a law banning Barbie dolls statewide.
Jeff Eldridge thinks the iconic Barbie doll places too much emphasis on physical beauty and is unhealthy for young girls "emotional and intellectual development." He thinks they send the message that “if you’re beautiful you don’t have to be smart.”
No word yet on whether or not the bill will pass, but he's giving it all he's got.
Not sure how we feel about this - many of us played with Barbie dolls as young girls and we turned out perfectly fine! What do you think?http://thevibe.socialvibe.com/wp-con...arbie-doll.jpg ps. what'd barbie look as a 50 year old barbie anyway?
