I rather enjoy being a mod, or else I'd not have continued to do it after being hired for a paid position! Yes, you take a good level of abuse, but you also get to help people and I like being able to do something about stuff I see happening rather than having to stand helplessly by. I've made some nice friends modding these forums, especially here in OT. Enough so that the few who decided to hate me because of some minor infraction don't really bother me.
foxybunny, you still didnt correct yourself....
ya well that is true with out them there will be no help lol
any way if u r a mod do u hav 2 be on like all the time
I don't think the mods should represent the company. By all means they should work with them, but since they are volunteers (all but Foxy, the mod), they should owe more to the players then the company. Also, Foxy, you and I have a serious disagreement in what trolling actually is. I think players that attack others is trolling, but players that attack the company is not. That is my opinion though. The reason why I speak up the way I do is because I hate watching potential get thrown away. I don't hate Evony, but as every day passes by, my trust in them fades much more. There should never be as many issues as there are with people trying to buy the "special" packages. Overall, I don't see any dynamic improvement occuring with them trying to make their image better. Overall, I tend to have to do something drastic to make a change occur Foxy. If I act out, I've noticed Thalin will normally come answer people's questions then, and other changes have occured when I tried to act out. Take the 16th (last time I was suspended). I acted out only a bit that day, but Thalin then came on shortly after and actually communicated with the community. Evony never takes the proactive step they need to. They are always reactive, and that is where the issue lies.
I like helping people...gives me a warm tingling feeling.
No, you don't have to be on all the time. We do look for people who are active, though, since it would be nice if we had mods on as often as possible.
And ABakker, I wasn't referring to anyone in particular when I said that bit about trolling. Had I meant you specifically, I'd have said so. I think I have proven I am not shy about things like that.
BTW, please correct your post. Purples, just like green names, are NOT paid. I was made a supermod because of my activity level and because I had earned the trust of the reps. I was not made a supermod because I was an employee. At the time I was made a supermod, the reps didn't even know I was in the process of being hired and I still do NOT get paid while modding.
realy, im on all the time on evony the game at uk time from 4pm till 11pm
and im the host of elders6 on server 21 im wiith the family of elders lol
o and wat do i hav 2 do 2 be a mod
Not triple-posting would be a good start. :)
does any 1 no, is there any mods on
I am a mod!
Well, actually, I work full time for a very large corporation. I work part-time for Evony. And I mod the forums with what very little free time I have left. I continue to mod because I enjoy it and because we are rather short of mods at the moment. I know I can't devote as much time to this as it deserves, but I do my best.
BTW, I know Alex said that we shouldn't be representing the company. But if you have a problem and you come to the forums to seek an answer, don't you latch onto the first colored name you see? Don't colored names carry weight when they say something about the company or policies? So whether you like it or not, by putting on that colored name, you have done the same thing as if you put on a uniform and a badge. You DO represent the company. If you cannot in good conscience do so, you are better off not being a mod. This doesn't mean you choose the company over the customers....on the contrary. You are an unpaid volunteer who is here to simply keep the forums running smoothly. If you do that, it doesn't really matter what your personal feelings are. You just shouldn't be bashing the company in the process.
how many mods do they need is there like a limit
I won't ever be a mod, cause I got nailed for trolling a couple times. Not my fault, there are a huge amount of stupid people in the world and sometimes they all seem to be on Evony forums all at the same time some days.
I'll be a mod when Hell freezes over.
*waits for Hell to freeze over*
But seriously. I'd clean these forums up. I only deserved one of my sixteen infractions.
For me personally there is a split between mods and representatives.
Since you are working for them, you represent the company in every way. That will bring bad things with it, for instance getting the full load from unhappy customers. A moderator in my eyes, being a volunteer, is not representing the company where the game is concerned. A moderator here is solely for the forum which can be seen apart from the game.
There is a very small section that is the game suggestion forum, but other than that, I hear over and over again that this is the forum and that the mdoerators here cannot be held responsible for anything that happens in the game. So keep it that way.
Milo you'd be a good mod if you didn't have such a bad... history.
Understandable Foxy, but in my opinion, Mods should be more like player representatives to the company. Yes people that bash the company are bad there (people only begin bashing if something has happen to them in the past in relation too), but mods should not have to fear losing their powers if they speak out ever. They should be the people that take the concerns of the community, summarize them, and present them to the company. Yet, rather they have to follow orders of closing certain threads that in no way violate the forum rules, but entice more people to make threads about it.
As a side note, Thalin knew the whole time you were being hired. I mean your his assistant after all. It should not have been a fact that never needed to be hid.
any mods on here ?? right now if so reply pls
What are you missing, hon? I AM A MODERATOR. That's why my title is "Super Moderator".
Well, the conditions of my hiring and employment are really not something I'm going to debate with you. But the reps who are in charge of the forums did not know about the hiring, and the division I was hired for does not manage the forums. So there was really no reason for them to know about what each other was doing within their own divisions. And at the time, I wasn't in a position to be discussing it.
*quietly whistles to self*
Yep mods get blamed for everything, even when people are out of line they blame the mods for doing their job.
Just look at some of our most famous trolls in the past, they were only on the forum to cause problems however they blamed everything on the staff. Thats like punching a cop in the face, then blaming him for arresting you. I call it, stupidity.
Or blaming the husband for moderating for his wife....
Oh. Ouch...
any 1 here thats on server 21
I will be the next mod!

Abracax does not moderate for me. :) In fact, those of you here who have me on skype and are often asking me to close threads, delete posts, or look at something that is going on are doing more moderating than he ever gets to do.
I think the veil on your hostility is slipping hon. Might want to adjust that.
hey wats your name on skype
It seems to me ABakker made a valid point earlier. Rightly or wrongly, I see moderators as servants of the community as a whole, acting as they do to keep this forum in-bounds and clean.
I have in mind what De Tocqueville had to say about the aristocraty in the old, feudal regime. And I hasten to add that I do NOT perceive moderators as aristocrats of the forum! But rather a necessary buffer between the company and the players using this place. Both to keep communications from user to company within reasonable limits of civility, and decisions of the company explained and even sometimes reversed by user protests channeled through Mods and Reps.
In short, a "courroie de transmission" between the company and users (I can't translate that expression!!! Transmission Belt, maybe??). Which is how old Alexis qualified the aristocraty.
I think of moderators as sheriffs and these forums as a wild west town.
Sometimes they just need to be janitors and tidy up some of the mess.
i think of them as people who keep the forums clean with the power of the sacred banhammer
(yes i know about the banhammer)
That would be the best job ever...
Well hopefully its people that are actually regulars on the forums as we all have seen how hiring people with 0 posts works.
Anyways I got shot down by admin, told me you 'have' to be 18, even though there have been mods younger then that.
Who told you that?
Which part?
