Well, you should play Lost Odyssey for Xbox 360. The main character for that is immortal, and they have some nice writting showing the paradox of never being able to die from multiple standpoints.
Personally, I would want more details on my immortality. If I was immortal, but had to live like a robot, kill me now lol. Yet, I could stand living like a human moreso as long as all my injuries fully heal. It would still be paonful watching loved ones die, and separation from all people won't work because you would become insane on a much more accelerated basis. There is a good chance that no matter what path you chose, you'd become insane in the end.
Well lets rejoice that the people here wont need to go crazy about going insane.:D
Oh and Ive played Lost Odyssey. The short stories of being immortal are very thought provoking and actually inspired me to make this thread
Being immortal could be really good, or really, really bad.
If you were immortal and never aged beyond a point where you were at your peak (say 25 or so) would be good.
But being immortal and getting older every year would start to really suck. Imagine how it would be to be a thousand years old and feel a thousand years old.
Being immortal and having a lot of money without having to work for it would be good.
But being immortal and being some poor slob who has to work whatever sucky job that you can get, just to get by, would really start to suck big time.
Being immortal and living in a world that you felt was improving all the time would be ok.
But being immortal and living in a world that you felt was going down the toilet, (and actually was) longing for 'the good old days' would be pretty sucky too.
What would really suck would be being immortal and getting locked up in jail 'for life'.
Or being immortal and somehow surviving beyond the rest of humanity, so you are alone forever would be enough to drive you insane forever. And running around naked, smeared in feces is not a good look.
So how's that immortality looking now?
Being a 1000 year old hobo who went into jail for trying to make the world better but made it worse, which then led to its destruction would be an epic fail.
Only if the people closest to me were also immortal. I'd hate to go through life with everyone dying on me all the time.
I watched a movie about this guy that always looked like he was in his late 20's~early 30's. I don't think he was immortal, but he's been alive since the dawn of man kind.
Every 10+ years he'd leave his job, family, everything because he didn't age, and didn't want to see the people he loved died.
'Think that'd be easier than staying around to see your family die.
I think what would be worse then watching them die would be leaving them and such. If your miserable because you must live much longer, don't spread that misery to others. I mean I would try to grin and bear it no matter how difficult that might be.
Also, as for what Cy said, eventually everyone in the world would have to be immortal so that no one feels sad in the first place, otherwise you only help yourself and put others through the same misery in my opinion.
Speaking personally, the older I get, the more immortality seems like a good idea.
I do not relish the prospect of eventually leaving this world. I love it more and more with each passing year.
Years that go by so fast now...
