Why thank you, Wildor, you have a nice one too.
I have four dinners. Yay. Thanks.
Awww, you beat me... I'm only going to 2...
Thanks Wildor
I thank you very much Ken. I know you are sincere, just as I am, and your good wishes touch me.
I must however point out that, as a Canadian, my Thanksgiving was celebrated last week. And is really no big deal up here. Really no big deal at all...
In other words, this is a uniquely American holiday, one of great importance I know, but the rest of the world just doesn't celebrate it.
But as they say, it is the thought that counts! And I thank you again for your kindness.
:)
You all are nice :D
Thank you.
Thank you Wildor :D
Looking forward to it.
I'm just looking forward to the turkey and football! :D
EDIT: wait, shouldn't my username be afraid of this holiday?
ill be celebrating harvest day
Well working all day THEN dinner..... yea! lol <3
Can anyone explain where that turkey comes from? And why there is a difference in the celebration time with Canada?
And in fact, why is it at the end of November (more or less).
My Thanksgiving consists of me and the computer all day. My husband's working until the evening.
At least it's major overtime.
Thank you Wildor :D
Edu, the turkey comes from an attempt to recreate the original Thanksgiving feast, where legend has it that turkey was served. (Don't really know...but yummm...it works for me!)
It is celebrated at the end of November because it is a harvest feast. After surviving the first winter in the New World, despite the ever present danger of starvation, the settlers managed to grow crops and establish themselves throughout the spring/summer/fall of 1621 and celebrated not only their survival but having enough food to last the coming winter.
Frankly, the actual facts are a bit murky because sometime a couple hundred of years ago it became a sort of urban legend (so much as you could have one in the 1800's) and was altered accordingly.
At this point, nobody really cares so much about that. It's a lovely excuse to get family and friends together, eat yourselves sick on all the best comfort foods, watch football, play games, and spend a bit of time remembering just what all we have to be grateful for in our lives.
Nothing to be thankful for.
You know... someone wanted the US animal to be a Turkey... instead it is an eagle. If it was a turkey, we won't be eating turkey atm.
So now I need to find a new sig pic, something with a christmas theme I guess?
awww.....I ate so much turkey I think I'll barf. it was outragous though.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL. AND TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT!!! :D
it was ben franklin
but it wasnt so much that he really liked the turkey, he just really hated the bald eagle
