Do we humans love War?

And love it so much that we couldn't last long without it?

The historical record seems to prove it. And if so, what is the future of War? Are games such as Evony more important to the future well-being of humanity than we realize, allowing us to war "safely"?

Or is War really an aberration of our behavior, and not the norm?

I'm sure we would last very long without war. The only problem is that war is inevitable. There will always be greed. There will always be differences in cultures and ideologies. There will always be a proletariat and bourgeoisie.

I don't see how Evony comes into this. Do you honestly think online RTS games help anything at all?

War is not an aberration of our behavior, it is part of our behavior. Humans naturally clash over things large and small. If we don't clash over religion, nuclear weapons, or something else large-scale, we'll clash over something like who is smarter, or who has the better style. War is just a large-scale version of an argument.

War=Violence=Aggression. Testosterone. So, to an extent, war is a part of us.

Is there anything we can do about that?
With modern science, perhaps.
Would it benefit the Human Race?
Unlikely.

Generally, the world seems to be much more peaceful place than it once was. Or is it? Third world countries are ripped apart a little further by war every day, and I am yet to see a city without some sort of crime.

Will Humanity ever be peaceful?
Completely? never.

I don't want to be drawn into the debate, just start it. But I must clarify something.

I mentioned war games like Evony precisely because, as you say YS, I think war is part of our behavior. Which helps explain this game's success. And would, perhaps, help assuage this instinct of ours.

War is a reaction to Fear.Fear is an Emotion derived from Animal Instinct of survival.Anger,usually displayed in War,is a response triggered by Fear. Love is an emotion that encourages the desire to survive and Pro-create at all cost.So yes humans Love war!

I think that we can't live long without some sort of conflict. As much as people crave peace, we never really appreciate it without a war. I think games tend to help stave off some of the worst of the need to prove oneself better than the rest, but games can only go so far in doing so. Plus, there are many reasons for war (though we may never agree that a reason is ever the right reason for war). I believe that as long as humans (with differing viewpoints and egocentricity) breathe, there's always going to be a war. It's just how you fight it that differs. Some want bloody conflict, some want educated discussion, but it's all a fight in the end.

I didn't mean to draw you into the debate. I just disagree with the bolded part of the quote.

I think that the game's success comes more from the desire to feel victorious. Whether or not that feeling is the goal of real war is the question.

I don't think it's true that Evony can "help assuage this instinct of ours." If somebody gets fired from their job and they find out their fianc?e is cheating on them, I don't think they're going to go home and play Evony.

I 100% agree with Yellow Submarine about what he said, as well as those who have said close to the same thing.

I think that war is part of human nature. And that people who denounce war, just go to show their ignorance about that human nature.

Also, Alright... sorry to edit this out SunTzu but you know the rules. No religion.

To some, it may bring excitement (Video Games, etc) but to actually experience the reality of it yourself, that my friends is a whole different ball game. It is completely beyond anything you have ever felt or imagined. Something in a nightmare could not compare.

War is not only inevitable, but necessary.

IMO, I could go further into it, but whatever.

Humans are the only species that competes just becuase we can. Whenever animals fight, its always related to the instinct to survive. Most fights between humans, whether an arguement or a full scale war, asrise from either greed, insults, or from trivial differnces in culture, religion, politics, etc.

Natural selection is a constant competition. Humans have essentially "won" evolution, by becoming the most powerful species, which means that we must be the most competitive of all. Lacking credible threats from bumblebees and worms, we must continue to struggle with each other for dominance, which manifests itself in everything from social occasions to battlefields.

So civil war will be a constant until we evolve further and become aphysical beings, or we find some aliens who we can kill.
