Forges
There is a pretty aggressive debate as to whether forges actually yield benefits to attacks. There is some evidence, though incomplete, that they do help. The game says they do but doesn't specify in what way. Can anyone settle this argument or point us in the right direction to solve it?
Does a forge improve your attack?

forge: a building. the forge allows for upgrades of a certain type taht benefits your troops, with atack or training time. im not sure since at the moment my evony client is failing, but after you upgrade the upgrade that the building took to level 10 you dont need that building in that city, or frankly any other city. you can demolish them all and forget about them forever.
having the forge itself existing in your city provides no benegit to any aspect of evony gameplay.
EDIT: i can see why you would be led to belive this. the description of the forge i belive to be, but an mot sure of "a higher level forge allows for better weapons to be built." this is a refrence to the technology. nothing else.

Forge
One of the Evony official docs cited the forge as "a way to increase the power of your attacks." Absolutely, that could mean better weapons and very well may. The reason I am brining it up now is we have 3 players run a test hitting level 10's with all factors equal here is what we saw:
In 3 sets of attacks - only counting the ones where the NPC hero was captured (so we would know attack) - all three sets used the same hero without raising his attack. All results where NPC attacker varied by more than 10-15 points were discarded. Lastly, 10 attacks were made in each set with the same heroes from cities with and without a level 10 forge. (of course, no corslet or attack bonus used...)
Results: Cities with forges took 20% less archer casualties than ones without. This was consistent in all three test groups.
It is possible this is just a very strange statistical abberation but it made sense to ping the Evony community for other thoughts that could have led to these differences.

Wow. I just always destroy them when I'm finished....
May think again now.

That's just it. doing a triple blind test with even that few data points took way too long (ok - in fairness, we needed to hit the level 10's anyway and it helped to build up heroes...) but still - it seems a bizzarely unlikely scenario to be coincidence.
The same argument has been made about stables based on it's description as to effectiveness of cav/cataph without stables.
(I had been getting rid of forge, workshop, stables, inn, etc. to finish off builds - now I am questioning it).
