New Player War Account Guide Part 1
I have been playing Evony since server 5 was in beta testing as Civony. I had a 1M prestige account there and have hosted a top 10 alliance in the past. I recently started playing full time on a new server. I am greatly enjoying restarting the game and building my new account with the lessons I have learned late game on server 5.
While building my new account I have noticed the need on my new server for a new player guide. I know there are already some guides here and some of them have been composed by better writers than me. However, I decided to try my hand at it since most of the experienced players are way past this stage and are now concentrating on late game tactics.
*** Disclaimer - This is one players opinion - remember that and if you want to do something different then have it your way. This is meant for those players who are open to the advice and want to build a fighting account. With that being said...
INTRODUCTION:
This guide is being written for players who are out of beginners protection and in the 50k to 100k prestige range (give or take). At this point in the game most players are still leveling up buildings and working toward finishing research and building decent armies. The following is a guide to help new players get to the mid game stage and to reach that stage in a way that enables the best progression into late game. If you are a true warrior and you follow this guide you can be epic in this game. If you follow this guide it will take you from your current prestige to well into the 1M prestige realm and beyond!
***Note to the reader***
This guide is written with a focus on building a war fighting account. A war fighting account is an account consisting of mainly (if not all) player converted lvl 10 NPCs, and it is an account that is set up to survive and thrive at all points/aspects in the game including late game heavy fighting and server wide war environments. In the author?s opinion prestige means nothing and I have fought many players with lots of prestige but no fighting skill or warrior spirit. This guide will help you construct a great account for fighting, but if you want a prestige gaining guide go find one elsewhere. While you are reading that, I will be using this model to attack players twice my prestige and take their resources? maybe yours too lol.
READ THIS GUIDE IN ORDER! It has been written in a certain order on purpose, and it needs to be read in this order. As you progress from one section to the next I will expand on points made in earlier sections. It is also important to read it in order so you don?t miss an important step and, in turn, slow your progress later in the game.
Table of Contents:
Section 1 ? HEROES
Section 2 ? CITIES: LAYOUTS AND BUILD STANDARDS
Section 3 - FARM TEAM & ARMY BUILDING
Section 4 - THE FUTURE
HEROES
This is one of the most important aspects of the game and, at the same time, a part of the game that is little explained and very easy for beginners and advanced players alike to neglect.
Heroes come with various combinations of attribute scores. When discussing heroes we will refer to them by discussing the attribute score that is highest. So, for example, an attack hero is a hero where the highest attribute score is in the attack category.
With that being said it is important to start with heroes that have a high base level score for their highest attribute. This is important because you level your hero up by doing things that give them experience (ex. Attacking, scouting, defending, building, training troops and researching). As you level up your heroes they will level up much faster and easier if you start with a hero that has a high base level attribute.
Base level is calculated by looking at the heroes highest attribute score and subtracting the level from that number.
For example - A level 9 hero with a politics score of 69 is a base level 60 hero.
When buying heroes, be a snob. ONLY buy heroes that have a base level of 60 or higher. This may mean that you have to swap out some of your current heroes ? do this now and don?t wait until later in the game to do it.
Also when buying heroes you will notice that higher level inns actually do not offer better heroes. In reality, for some reason, a level 1 inn will consistently provide a better selection of high base level attribute heroes than a level 9 or 10 inn. The higher level inns will offer more heroes at one time and their levels will be higher, but their base attribute score will usually be lower and it will be harder to find a high base attribute score in higher level inns. For that reason, I never upgrade my inns past level one. This means that I don?t get a quest for that, but I am a fighter not a quest seeker. Also you will end up conquering cities that have inns that are upgraded and you will get your quest award that way.
Types of heroes ? heroes come with 3 types of attributes ? politics, attack and intel. You will need one of each in every city, so begin by leveling your feasting hall to level 3 and purchase one hero with at least a 60 base attribute for each of the categories. So buy one base 60 or higher hero for politics, one for attack and one for intel. Here are the uses:
Politics Hero ? Appoint this hero as mayor in your city and leave this hero in most of the time as mayor. The politics attribute bonuses your cities resource production and cuts build times for leveling up buildings.
Attack Hero ? This hero will automatically step up to defend our city when it is attacked. The higher your attack attribute in defense the tougher your troops will fight and they will do more damage to the attacker. You will also need an attack hero to send with attacks. The higher your attack attribute the more damage your troops will do when they hit on offense. The attack attribute also cuts training times on troops. If you temporarily install your attack hero as mayor BEFORE you cue troops in training you will be able to cut you troop building times. After the troops are cued, re-appoint your politics mayor.
Intel Hero ? This hero cuts research time if you put them in as mayor BEFORE cuing research projects. There is also much debate on what else your intel hero does from there but I usually throw an intel hero in on scout missions where I know I am scouting a well defended enemy city that is likely to have high informatics, lots of scouts and a high level beacon tower. I think it helps in these instances especially if the defending cities gates are open and there is a scout battle.
***Note*** As you level up your feasting hall you will have slots for more than 3 heroes. Always keep a politics and intel hero in each city ? then fill up all your remaining slots with attack heroes. To reiterate one more time as well ? ONLY buy heroes with a base attribute of at least 60 or higher.
***Note*** Always maintain your heroes with 100 loyalty. This can be done with a daily maintenance round where u can reward them and keep their loyalty at 100. If loyalty falls below 100 you risk losing the hero if you are attacked.
New PLayer War Account Guide Part 2
CITIES:
This guide is being written to take players from late beginner stage forward so it assumes you are out of beginner protection and that you have already done your part to at least level your city up a bit. I am not going to go into detail on each building type since most miscellaneous building upgrades that you need will be forced by the game if you work toward the build standards I am about to describe.
The first thing to note here is that one city is usually better than two at this point in the game. The reasons are as follows:
1. You can only lose a city if you have more than one city ? for this reason you make a nice target if you have a nicely built but poorly defended main city accompanied by a baby second city.
2. Build your first city for strength and growth. When it is well fortified, houses a decent army and has a functional farm team (more on all this later) it will allow you to farm NPCs for food and to raid other players for resources. This will enable you to go and take a second city and then you will also have the necessary resources to divert into fortifying and upgrading this second city.
3. Don?t dilute your power by diverting resources before your first city is strong. When you spend resources to level up a baby city you are taking those resources from your main city where they can be used for adding wall forts, building troops and further leveling up and researching.
CITY BUILD STANDARDS AND GOALS:
Your main city layout should look as follows:
Walls
Minimum level 7 walls with the following fortifications ? 1000 traps, 100 abatis, 100 rolling logs, 5000+ archer towers
Walls goal ? end goal here should be a minimum level 9 wall with the following wall forts ? 1000 traps, 1000 abatis, 100 rolling logs, 100 defensive trebuchets and all the rest of the slots filled with archer towers (that should be approx 14,000 archer towers when finished with lvl 9 walls)
Ultimate goal here is lvl 10 walls with the same wall forts but with the remaining spaces filled with archer towers (that will be approx. 18,000 archer towers)
City Layout (these are MINIMUMS so you can compete on the server at this time and grow from there ? if you are not already here this is what you need to work toward)
Level 8 Town Hall, Beacon Tower
Level 5 Rally Point, Embassy, Academy
Cottages ? build 10 with minimum level 5 at this time
Barracks ? build 10 ? two level 9, two level 6, six level 4 (upgrade from there)
Level 3 Marketplace, Feasting Hall and Relief Station
Level 1 inn ? do not level this up further
Resource Fields
With level 8 Town Hall you will have 27 resource field spots. Fill them up as follows:
1 Level 9 Farm - DO NOT build more farms. Everyone does this while in beginner protection so you will probably have to tear some down, but leave just one farm and level that up to level 9 for research purposes. Why do I say not to build farms? Simple, I am thinking ahead. Even in early game a decent small army will run you in the negative on food. This is why NPC and player farming is so important (more on farming later). Also, with food so easy to get from players and NPCs, it is better to use your resource fields to produce the other resources you will need. These resources (mainly wood and iron) are much more valuable than food and the excess you produce here can also be sold in your marketplace to buy more food when you need to.
9 Quarries built to minimum level 4
9 Sawmills built to minimum level 5
8 Ironmines built to minimum level 5
Resource field goals ? as you finish upgrading walls, town hall beacon towers and other buildings you will not need stone and the quarries can be torn down and replaced with sawmills or iron mines. ALWAYS leave at least one of each type of resource field (level 9 or 10) even when you are tearing the rest down. You may need this later so don?t tear them all down. For now make your goal to build a balanced field of resources with the layout mentioned above and work toward making all your resource fields level 9. This is a long gradual process and it will take a few months to complete. It will also take some work in the future as you replace quarries etc.
Ultimate Goal - A city will produce the most when it is dedicated to one type of resource. However, in my opinion, this creates a problem with balance. For that reason the end goal for your resource fields should be to have 1 each of level 9 farm and quarry along with an even split of level 9 ironmines and sawmills to fill up the rest of the resource field slots.
***Note on Valleys*** Obviously holding valleys bonuses resource production and it is desirable when obtaining valleys to get all level 9 and 10. However, I see valleys as a weakness. They are not reasonable to defend with troops eating double food there and basically just sitting there waiting to be wiped by a large attack wave. They are also the first thing an enemy will usually attack. For the reason I personally fight without valleys. This way I do not have to waste the time or resources maintaining or reconquering them after each war and I don?t get used to the production bonus or miss it when it is gone. Ultimately plunder is the best way to achieve massive resource hauls, so valley bonuses are negligible. Only count on what your city can produce internally!
FARM TEAM AND ARMY BUILDING:
Before you build a massive army you must have a way to feed them. A late game war fighting account will most likely have all its cities running in the negative to the tune of at least -3Million per hour. War cities will routinely run 15-30Million per hour in the negative. It might seem unreal now, but the bottom line is that troops eat food.
There is no use training troops you can?t feed so follow the next outline to structure your beginning army. From this model you can easily expand and add what you need. This troop distribution will also allow you to plunder additional resources and gold to further your reseach and leveling as well as to farm lvl 5 NPCs. This is also an easily scalable model.
Train the following in this order from top to bottom:
1000 workers
1000 warriors
5000 scouts
500 transports
1000 pikeman
1000 swordsman
5000 archers
500 more transports
500 ballista
You will need to plunder food on a daily basis to support this beginner army as you build it and your food draw will be around 30,000 per hour NEGATIVE. This is why there is a group of transports to build early in the list. As far as plundering goes - get used to it ? farming is part of Evony and to support a war account you have to farm on a daily basis while always looking for those larger hauls that can help you build a stockpile.
Once your ballistas are done you can also begin to plunder lvl 5 NPCs. This will be the backbone of your farming operation to support/feed your army. Get to the troop distribution above and then IMMEDIATELY put your farm team to work when your ballistas finish training. This will be the key to building a larger sustainable force and to further leveling your account. Eventually you will be able to farm level 10 NPCs with large archer waves and take 19M per hit!
Also put your resources from this point forward into building more ballistas and transports BEFORE YOU BUILD ANY OTHER TROOPS!!!
Build with the ultimate goal of getting to 3500 each of transports and ballistas in each city. As you build toward that goal, for each 500 transports and ballistas you build add 10,000 to your troops numbers for archers and 1000 to each additional troop. Use this model and build as follows ?
Add 500 ballistas and transports THEN
Add 10,000 archers and 1000 each of other troops
Rinse, Repeat?
You will also want to increase your farming operation with each 500 ballis and transports that come out of training. Every time a new group comes out of training immediately build a new level 5 NPC and start farming it at least one time per day. Send 450 ballistas and 450 transports on each attack run and send as many waves as you can from your city each time.
For example - If you have 1500 ballis and transports you should have a level 5 feasting hall and you should have 3 attack heroes. Then you should be sending 3 waves at a time against level 5 NPCs. Eventually you will be able to send 8 to 9 waves of farm attacks from each city and still have an open wave to scout or attack with. When you farm like this you will be able to haul in an average of 15-20Million food with each round you send from each city you have. This will enable you to support a larger and growing army! Just imagine then if you can send out more than one farm wave per day. NPCs regenerate resources every 8 hours so you could easily farm them twice per day and take 30Million in food each day. That is enough food to feed a decent army and get to the point of farming lvl 10 NPCs. They yield 19M per hit in food!!!
Also attacking lvl 5 NPCs will give your heroes experience and will give you awards in the form of medals and an item from time to time. This will enable you to level up your hero and gain strength.
THE FUTURE:
In the future this account model allows you to scale it up for late game tactics and troops production. This guide barely scratches the surface and it is my advice based on how I run my account. However, you may find ways to improve it and I hope you do. You will also find you own style of running your account but no matter how you chose to grow in the future you will need to have these basics in place so you can make it happen.
There is also a lot more to talk about when it comes to future changes and upgrades as your account grows and the server matures. You will need to make some changes to your builds as you complete research etc., but that is another conversation. Work on the basics first and this guide will get you started. Have fun and good luck in game!
Glad this has helped some players
Hello - I am happy to see the comments coming in here. It took a while to write this guide so I am glad that it is helping some of you and that you rate it highly.
Again good luck to all of you in game - the next guide is coming soon and it focuses on hero building and the next evolution of an account to head into a mid game battlefield.
Talk to u all soon - SPECOPS
PS - I dont know what is up with all the ?s showing where commas and other punctuation should be - it wasnt like that when i wrote it lol - oh well i guess if someone wants to pick on my guide they can say something about that :)

Part 3 - Heroes and Hero Attribute Building
HEROES AND HERO ATTRIBUTE BUILDING
In parts 1 and 2 of the New Player War Account Guide we discussed the basics of forming a solid foundation for a war account that will last and be viable in late game heavy fighting. This guide will expand on some of the hero related aspects of the game that I touched on in my earlier posts.
Going back to buying heroes ? be a hero buying snob!!! ONLY buy heroes with a base level 60 or higher. As a reminder, base level is calculated by taking the heroes highest attribute score and subtracting from that the level number. So a level 4 hero with a 65 attack attribute score is a base level 61 hero.
But why buy the different heroes? Here is a quick refresher. The reason is that they all have a different use. You should have 1 politics hero (base level 60 or higher politics), one intel hero (base level 60 or higher intel) and the rest of your heroes should ALL be attack heroes (base level 60 or higher attack attribute) for each city. Here are the hero uses:
Politics hero ? should be the mayor most of the time ? this hero bonuses resource production and also cuts build times for building upgrades.
Intel hero ? temporarily appoint this hero as mayor before cuing research and it will cut research times ? this hero can also be used in attacks on NPCs and using high intel heroes when raiding NPCs will result in a higher drop rate for things like Michaelangelo Scripts, teleporters etc.
Attack hero ? automatically steps up and defends city when it is under attack ? also you can temporarily appoint this hero as mayor and it will cut the build times on your troops when you cue them for training.
***Note*** With a level 1 Inn you will have the best chance of finding high base level heroes but you can only buy and view one at a time. It is a good idea to try to keep your heroes close together in their growth so they are all strong in their key feature. If you wait until you build up a bit of a gold stockpile you will be able to rapidly recruit heroes even with a level 1 inn. The way to do this??? Go the inn> buy a hero no matter what level and base level they are> then if they are base level 60 or higher keep them IF NOT dismiss them and then go back to your inn and ? rinse and repeat? keeping only the ones that fit the base level 60+ theory. Heroes will only cost a few thousand in gold so it will not deplete your gold stores too much. You will most likely have to hire and fire 30 to 40 heroes to find each base level 60 that you will keep - unless you get lucky. It takes some time and it is a bit of a chore so GL!
Now that you know how to buy and use your heroes, how does one go about leveling them up? First you have to understand what levels a hero. The answer to that is much like real life. Your hero gains attribute points by doing things that give him or her experience (ex. Attacking, defending, building, researching etc.)
Only after you gain the needed amount of experience are you allowed to increase your hero one level for the attribute you choose. So, you will need to use your heroes in order to level them up. If you have followed the model laid out in my New Player War Account Guide Part 1 and 2, you will already have a workable account and your heroes will no doubt be gaining experience on a daily basis as you farm for food and resources. This is how you put that experience to work.
First ? go to your hero management tab over in the right hand side menu bar on the Evony screen. I have attached a screenshot to go with this part of the guide. It is a screenshot of the hero management tab after I have clicked on it to open the hero management window (circled in BLUE) on the screen ? I will refer back to this screenshot from this point forward as I discuss hero leveling.
The part circled in RED (hopefully you are not color blind) is the hero management tab. Next you need to select a hero to upgrade by clicking on that heroes name. The next screen you see pop up will be the hero management window and I have circled that in blue airbrush.
Hero Management Window
On the hero management window you will see a list along the left side of the screen that shows all your heroes names. I have circled this in PINK (running out of colors that would show up lol). When you click on a heroes name then their attributes will appear along the right hand side of the screen so you can view their details.
Look at the experience line which I have circled in BLACK. If the number to the left is larger than the number on the right you can level up your hero! Also the UPGRADE button which I have circled in GREEN will be lit up and not grayed out as it is on this picture. Click the UPGRADE button until it wont let you anymore. As you click the UPGRADE button you will see the number to the right of the attribute box increase. For each number you gain here you can then increase the main attribute of your hero one point.
Once you have loaded up your heroes attribute box then you need to add points to the main attribute. You do this by clicking the + sign to the side of the attribute you wish to increase. I have circled this button in BURGUNDY. Each time you click the + button you will upgrade that attribute one point.
***Note*** ONLY upgrade the highest attribute for each hero. If the attack attribute is the highest then that is an attack hero. Upgrading any other attributes is a waste of experience points and will not make your hero work better since we are only using them for one job. Stick with the main attribute and level that to make each hero strong.
***Note*** Very important ? REMEMBER TO CLICK THE SAVE BUTTON each time you make any upgrades to your heroes attributes. If you do not save the changes, the attributes you added will drop off and sit in the attribute line until you add them and save. So, remember to save your changes each time!
***Note*** Again as a reminder - Remember to always maintain your heroes at 100% loyalty.
One last thing here with hero attribute leveling ? there is a small green + sign at far right of the experience line. This is the button you click if you want to use an item from your account to further bonus the level of your hero. These items will add an instant percentage gain to your heroes experience and make it possible to level them up without carrying out attacks etc. DO NOT do any of this type of leveling until your heroes main attribute is equal to or greater than 130. The reason for this is that the bonus items increase a percentage of your heroes level and you are wasting these items if you use them early. You will get more bang for your buck if you save these items and apply them after your hero is already strong.
Now you should have all the tools you need to level your heroes. Since you should also be farming daily at this point start hitting those level 5 NPCS ? make sure you have archery level 9 research and go to town. It will bump your heroes up a lot and help you stockpile food for the massive volume of troops you will be training as you proceed into mid game and beyond. Later we will also discuss farming level 9 and 10 NPCs but that is another discussion and you have to level your heroes first anyway.
Fight hard in battles and use this guide to be EPIC in this game. See you next time.
