When I was a noob on Server 20, Evony was fun and well worth playing. I did make the mistake of only building one barracks for a short time but hey, no-one's perfect.
What I do remember the most about being a new player on that server, was that there was an unwritten code of conduct about how everyone behaved and played. It was far more historically accurate in as much as wars were only declared if someone had really upset someone else - there was no bullying, no backstabbing, no hate mail as such and, most importantly, you were able to EARN promotions. You could farm valleys and get a decent amount of medals to get your promotions thereby being able to build your cities.
Now, to some folk, this may sound incredibly boring but believe me it wasn't. You really could build up an empire and a strong army. And when you were at war, you were fairly evenly matched which made it much more interesting. There were three distinct parts to the game - strategy, diplomacy and, of course, war.
These days, sadly all that is gone. Now it's all war war war war, some alliances even refuse to be friendly with others. And because of the way Evony have now dropped the medal rates so low to be almost nil - medals cannot really be earned. Unless you are extraordinarily lucky on the wheel, it has become the case that you HAVE to put in money if you want to get anywhere in the game.
It really has got to the stage now where only moneyed players get anywhere near building more than 2 cities and, to be honest, new players might just as well not bother because if they try to join an alliance - most of the so-called decent ones only accept experienced players so they can't get in.
I could go on but I won't - mainly because 1) most of it has already been said by others and got shouted down and 2) I will get shouted down.
Unfortunately, Evony has, effectively, been killed for me now. I don't have money to put into the game and there's no point in even trying to build up the hard (and more fun) way nowadays because, as my husband found out, even with a decent army and attack hero - these players who can afford to build up even bigger armies with their numerous cities and 400+ attack heroes very quickly can just come along and decimate yours in a few attacks without worrying because they can so quickly build up again; while you are left wide open and having to take a lot of time to rebuild.
Please note, I'm not having a go at those players who do put in money - if they want to do that then jolly good luck to them. I'm just saying it's not fair to have those with such a huge advantage playing on the same servers as those who are either new to the game and/or can't put money in.
So, Evony - please stop advertising this game as being 'Free Forever' and instead do the decent thing and make it a subscription based game.
Or, at the very least, have separate servers for those who do want to put money in, and those who don't want to or can't because as it is now, it's far too one sided.
When i was a noob i remember looking in the Inn waiting for the Hero named Castelleian or however u spell it lmao
When I was a noob...
1. Thought NPC was some kind of alliance and that they were going to attack me.
2. Filled all my valley slots with deserts.
3. Thought 10k prestige was a lot
It's good not being a noob anymore.... :)
