Agreed. I wouldn't call myself a smart cookie but I'll take the compliment anyway. I'm just glad to have someone to argue. :p

The difference is that members come to the forums out of fun. Moderators come out of obligation.
A moderator's job isn't glorious. It's really thankless in a way. Evony has gotten us to clean their forum for them without having to pay a thing in return. Somehow. We have to constantly do public relations with their customers, despite it not being our duty or responsibility, which usually results in us simply being verbal punching bags that have to smile through it all, amongst other things. I wouldn't be surprised if almost every mod has considered at one time or another quitting because they're frankly tired of dealing with all this grief for little in return. But you likely know that old song and tune.
With all that said, however, we stick around because we like this community, and like maintaining the community as a civil and enjoyable place for people to meet, which, let's face it, Evony itself doesn't really do.
But in the end, good and bad is on a scale. The good isn't really that much higher than the bad. Putting mods on a public pedestal to be bashed, insulted, mocked, or humiliated would be the sort of issue to likely tip the scale. The end result is that no one wants to be a mod (for honest reasons) because it's more trouble than it's worth, and those already in the position quit.
TL;DR:
And now I get to the point of this post: If the mods quit, and no one else is foolish enough to take such a doormat position, what do you think will happen to this message board? Dawnseeker can't manage the whole place by himself, Evony is unlikely to divert the time and effort of their paid staff to the forums, they're also unlikely to make forum moderators a paid staff position in an attempt to lure more fish into the net, and it's also pretty unlikely Evony will continue paying money to maintain a message board with absolutely no rule-enforcement, as it would only give them more bad reputation and public image.
So, would you feel that having moderators you don't 100% agree with but still co-exist with is better than having no moderators and consequently no message board?
If there's any sides, then they're invented by embittered members. Members don't have any duties, only a bunch of choices to make at their leisure (some of which may have consequences). They have a privilege to come here (and a very lax one at times, if you consider how many people here have multi-paged lists of infractions yet remain unbanned, whereas on most other gaming sites they'd be perma-banned almost immediately). If you want to fight it, that's fine, if you use the proper channels. If you simply want to stir trouble and try to incite disorder, then I assure you the end result will not bring anything but grief to everyone involved. Mods are not immune to this either, which has been shown in the past.Quote:
And there are sides SbD. Not necessarily mods/members but there are sides. It is the duty of a mod to infract rule breakers. It is the duty of the infracted member to fight it or accept it.
In the end, it's often better to try to make the best of what you have (compromising can count) rather than risk losing much in an attempt to gain little.
Lastly, attitude can play a large role in it too. If someone acts like they have a chip on their shoulder, that's often going to affect the resulting interaction negatively. Etiquette isn't always a matter of brown-nosing, but encouraging a positive atmosphere which can often lead to positive (or at least non-negative) results. This does, of course, apply to both sides.
TL;DR again:
Try to work with us, not against us. We're all people that love the message board (or lovingly hate it, or whatever). The results may bear sweeter fruit.
Okay, long rant over. Enjoy.
To give due credit, you did pop up in my head while I was typing that. :p
Alusair's right. I've been in those shoes before, and I know what it's like to be bashed simply for showing my face on the Forums because certain people thought that it was a cool thing to hate on Jurnis for a while.
Well, it wasn't fun, and the only reason I eventually went running to the others for help was because I was at the breaking point and couldn't stand that bull anymore.
If you try to burn the mods here for only doing what they have to do, then there is going to be no fun coming in the future for either side. In fact, everyone is going to be very darned miserable for a while until the dust settles.
You all see the whiners that have frequented these Forums from time to time. We all know who did it, and who is still doing it...I won't give out names. If you compare what you did to them just now for simply removing spam (as I have been informed) to them bashing the others over in GD for simply doing their work, I am sure that you're going to see some sad results out of it.
If you seriously want to turn the OT into a piece of trash, then keep on with the mod-bashing...You'll see where it gets you.
Nuff said.
