Bubble bobble. hands down
oldest version of nintendo im familiar with is the 64, Supermario being the best for that
The original "Final Fantasy"
It changed the video game world forever.
I, personally, have 4 cartridges in a box in my basement.
Because you could only have 1 save slot per cartridge. :D
Edit: Notable's
Dragon Warrior 1
There was a promotion to get it free for subscribing to Nintendo Power.
This brought so many new kids into the world of RPG's, what a great legacy. It also had excellent sequels in DW 2, 3 and 4.
Metal Gear 1
Collect weapons and keys and move through the levels and avoid being seen.
It's amazing how many features we still see in modern games they were able to fit into an 8-bit game
River City Ransom
If you've never heard of this game, I'm not shocked. But, it is totally worth checking out.
Think of it as Double Dragon with a RPG aspect
Double Dragon series
Co-op games are too few and far between anymore. Everyone wants to deathmatch each other.
As long as we're talking co-op, then the 4 player TMNT needs to be mentioned too. It's so fun with friends.
Super Mario Brothers 3
By far the best side scrolling platform game.
Castlevania 2
A close second to Mario 3. Still one of the best BGM's for a video game. it's my ringtone. (BGM = BackGround Music)
Who framed Roger Rabbit
Puzzle/mystery/RPG/action/driving game... I'm not sure what genre, but it was epic an game for such a small cartridge.
Mega Man series
What an original concept of paper rock scissors where each bosses weapon is best against another certain boss.
Fun password system instead of saves.
Maniac Mansion
I bought the computer game "Day of the Tentacle" specifically because this fantastic game is easter egged inside the game.
Legend of Zelda
The king of solo character RPG's
Metroid
Great hybrid of action side scroller and solo RPG.
Contra
up up down down left right left right B A (select) start
Tetris
It deserves a note, but it's not a great NES game. Discuss gameboy games, and it destroys all others.
Blaster Master
It's a little known game, but I played this for hours upon hours. It was awesome.
Sports Games
Excitebike - Track editor feature was year's ahead of it's time.
Skate or Die - Before the X-Games, before anyone knew who Tony Hawk was, there was Skate or Die.
Mike Tyson's Punchout - Who didn't own this?
Blades of Steel - Hockey game WITH fighting
Tecmo Super Bowl - Run backward to your 1 yard line and throw to any receiver. TOUCHDOWN!!
Duck Hunt - I still haven't seen a more fun "gun game." I want to shoot that dog... always laughing at me =P
Wow. I really got carried away rambling there.
Ahhhh, memories. These were the games of my youth. It's so hard to choose just one.
More edit: Some more notables edited in as I'm reminded by reading this thread:
Paperboy - How many windows can you break in one run?
Contra
Although if you really want to get oldschool then Atari is what you need to talk about and for that Tanks and Pitfall.
Hiding in a box in my basement with a few dozen games...

The fabled NES "stand-up" unit. :D
I also have 2 old big box units too.
nice i use to play the old SNE with duck hunt and yes i wish to kill that dog and super mario.those where the only two games we had :(
Ah, River City Ransom...I'm odd, but I loved it.
My nod goes to Dragon Warrior, though. More three and four, though.
for me through out nintendo.... best were contra and super mario along with mario kart :p ....

Blaster Master

I still have my NES and its gone with me all over the country in the army....
Blaster Master is another favorite of mine that I own.... and I was never able to beat as a kid (not at least for years later when i was able to look up how to beat the 6th world on the internet)
Pokemon Yellow version!!!
Zelda - hands down!!! My all time fav. I think I wasted most of my middle school and early high school years playing this game :)

Edit: This may have been SNES and not original NES. Not sure.
I thought Pokemon Yellow was a Gameboy game?
Pokemon=Old-school nintendo game to me...
The Commodore, as well.
ya the atari was one
Let's try to get back on topic. :)
Who' next to post their fav NES game?
Crystallis ranked high on there, though I can't remember whether that was NES or SNES.
Athena was one I played a lot.Remember now I never did finish it.
Baseball Stars was legendary...set the stage for all sports games that came after it!
Zelda, Dodgeball, Contra, Mario 3, MT's Punch Out, Renegades and way too many others to mention were also good.
i also had heard that Zelda and castlevania and Final Fantasy rocks, but alas i didnt have enough money to get them to play em :( but i have played the orginal Final Fantasy for the gameboy and am talking about the real gameboy here.

i never played. i was the one on the couch behind you telling you that if you just followed the pattern (insert corect pattern here) then you could get it. and not to get frustrated. and "WOW THAT WAS AMAMZING YOU ARE SUPER AWSOME!!!" i enjoyed watching duck hunt (look there it goes, and now to your left. SHOOT THE DUCKS NOT ME!) zelda (i wasnt done reading that) and mario (if you swing the controler it helps you jump better)
When 16 bit was new, I went for Sega instead of Nintendo. In Australia it was called a Mega Drive but I think it was called something different in the USA.
Anyway I chose the Sega mainly because the games looked better and after a year or two they started releasing some really good titles for that system.
Jungle Strike was a favourite, as was a version of Dungeons and Dragons. Landstalker forced me to buy a joystick controller as it was sort of 3D and all the movements were on the angles. Shining Force was another favourite title as well.
I did buy a NES sometime later when they were being phased out for the N64. Zelda and Final Fantasy were my favourite titles for that system. For some reason, Sega really blew it with their 64 bit system and had no good titles at release, so I went Nintendo 64 for a while and then PlayStation1.
Christ I think it was on the 64.
Street Fighter. Epic win. If I could get my hands on a console with street fighter again I would. It kept me occupied for hours.
Edit- My 800th post! Finally.
Wow the earliest console I had was the gamecube lol. I have played Goldeneye on the 64 and that was awesome!
I think the NES was the first system to really have engaging story lines and interesting games that were not only difficult and fun, but surprising....
SNES continued this legacy, but I think Sega really attempted to appeal to a older audience... but I still stand by my choice and support of NES / SNES 64+ on nintendo I feel less and less inclined to support them, and I never even played a game cube... (instaed moving more into playstation)
NES- Final Fantasy
N64 - Starfox 64
"The Legend of Zelda" for NES...
Everyone was talking about old gaming systems... Doesn't anyone remember the old ColecoVision console? Or even Coleco at all???
I remember ColecoVision, and I played it once or twice at a friends house. I never got to own one. In fact, I never owned an Atari, but played it many times. The first console I ever owned was a NES.Quote:

I loved playing Contra, but Mike Tyson's Punch out was still my favorite....no, wait, Ikarari Warriors was great with a friend. We stayed up all night trying to beat that game.
Lol, i gotta love the NES
First game system i ever had,
and first game i ever had was the Duck Hunt xD
I still have the old gun you connected to the NES for that game, i remember it being cool at one time too
lool that is the way of gaming stations
How could you all be forgetting about EXCITEBIKE? The track editor provided hours of excitement.
Paperboy, let me know what I Didn't want to do with my life.
