Thread: I'm paying to not play!

Default I'm paying to not play!

No this isn't a complaint about having to pay not to play. I actually think holiday/vacation mode is great. But before evony pats themselves on the back I want to share why. I have a busy weekend ahead that will require me to have a life due to a death in the family. I will have some time to play but not enough to maintain troop upkeep. So I'm not playing solely because I can't farm like I otherwise would. While evony may think this is great for revenue, I think it's ridiculous. Frankly I don't want to spend the few hrs I'll have available to me farming. Still I see no other way to maintain my cities on just 2 or 3 hrs of playtime a day on short notice. I guess that's what holiday mode is for but I've seen too many others leave who don't have the means to buy coins. Besides, holiday mode shouldn't be needed simply because I don't have enough time to perform such a mundane task as farming. So my only other options are sharing my account and asking others to farm me or using a bot, both which are against the rules.

I'm also going to take this time to see if I really want to continue with what I'm starting to see as an utter waste of time. For the most part I love every aspect of the game but the time spent farming to remain competitive has me seriously rethinking my future involvement of this game.

This is what i am going to have to do for a vacation mode, i am planning a trip to visit my children and will not be able to farm and take care of my troops and cities and i also can't afford to pay to have my account frozen, so i will be giving all of my cities except my main to a few of my trusted alliance mates and i will be sending all my troops to one of them in hopes that they can keep them alive.

IMHO, there should be at least someway a non paying member could get a break from the game without having to cheat or pretty much do it knowing that months worth of work will be wasted in a few short days.

Playing Devils Advocate(My cape looks fabulous by the way) The biggest draw to the game is that it never ends. At least back in the day when we enjoyed playing (Instead of mundanly farming to keep the troops fed) it was kind of exciting at the thought of what is going on with the alliance war and everything like that. And also the delightful hate mail when you captured someones city and named it "NotYoursNow"

I wish there was a way to earn some of the holiday/Super Truces because there are real life events that causes the anguish. But like many of us have done, we try to lesson the pain by taking the steps, and in a way it can pique interest again in playing. You can build new cities, plot the death of mean clowns who capped you.

I am going to miss you smokey; who else will I compete with in inane Banter?

Even without farming I feel compelled to log in. I enjoy all other aspects of the game. Even with the limited time I have this weekend I still wish I was able to help others or even defend my own cities from attack if needed. It's only the farming I really need to escape from and that is shame of me having to use holiday mode. The game has its drawbacks but all in all I really enjoy it and would want to be logged in. I just don't log into farm. In fact, many times I am unable to help or attack because of farming. Farming is taking away from the fun aspects of the game.

The problem with Evony right now is that the current upkeep system is a natural troop cap.

It's not a cap in the main sense of the word, but it actually is.

It basically means that those without billions of hours to spend a week farming will not do as well as those that have seemingly infinite amounts of time.

This is fine, to an extent. It caters to the power gamers and leaves the casual players in the dust. Any smart game designer knows you have to appeal to both (for long periods) to sustain revenue and growth. It's always been that way. Take any popular MMORPG like WoW, EQ, etc. There WERE powergamers that went above and beyond the norm, but there was PLENTY for the casual gamer to do. In Evony, once the casual gamer meets the point of needing to farm massively for upkeep, they cannot keep up and die out. There is nothing else for them to do. Attacking others IS the end game. To do this effectively, troops must be fed.

Just my 2 cents. Something needs to change.

Ahhh I was wondering what 'vacation' option there was. I've played Ogame on/off for years. Vacation Mode there needs to shut ALL production / research down and no fleet movements and lasts for a minimum period so it can't be used as an escape from a big bad wolf bearing down on you. Accounts will delete in time if people dont return.
So you are saying I have to PAY to come out of V Mode here? That's stupid.
Also in Ogame you can 'fleetsave' - send ships and resources off on a [slow] journey to protect while you are offline... doesn't mean you can't get caught tho.

I'm starting to feel my affair with this game [been fun so far] will be short and sweet...

But, we DO allow account-sitting. We always have.

What we require is that it be actual account-sitting, and not account-sharing. Here's a guide:

You give your login information to one trusted person = account-sitting
You give your login information to your whole alliance = account-sharing
Someone else plays your account for a set period of time while you are away = account-sitting
Someone else plays your account every day when you sleep = account-sharing
You notify Evony of the account sitting beforehand = account-sitting
You hide this information from us and deny it when you get suspended or "hacked" = account-sharing
You eventually return to the account and your friend stops playing it = account-sitting
You never return, or you return and you both keep playing it = account-sharing

    Account-sitting is allowed.
    Account-sharing will get you banned.

And how does one notify Evony?

Added as an afterthought: During this time the person "account-sitting" if they are in your alliance, cannot use your troops to reinforce him/herself?

Thank you for the clarification. I assumed sharing account information would not be allowed. It's pretty standard for good reasons.
