Well I'll not get any of these if they're metal. I hate metal so much but I'm not going to diss it. I prefer Alternative and Rock...

I might only get one, myself. I think the only Metal I ever listened to was one song by Iron Maiden...that's it.

Special Props To Don Ezio for this!

In war, victory. In peace, vigilance. In death, sacrifice.

I think Metal has been ruined by things like Slipknot... I also think Metallica are way way overrated...

    1) The analogy of random screaming and playing of the guitar.

    Metal on guitar is one of the hardest things to play by far, try playing a chromatic sweep at 270bpm. Not random in the slightest, it all follows strict musical theory, advanced chord and scale patterns. Couple this with the technique needed for such things and you'll find it to be far less random than you may think. Also, the 'screaming' is in fact not screaming. It is harsh vocals. A very difficult technique to learn, the difference here is;
Screaming - Extremely loud, do serious damage to your vocal chords, probably never talk again after recording a single album.
Harsh vocals - Sound emanating from the guttural region, much quieter than a scream. Hardly any damage to yourself, and extremely hard to do.

Hard to do, yes... but it also sounds like crap... It's hard to jump off a 10 story building and survive too, that doesn't mean it's a GOOD thing to do...

    2) Pointless, without meaning, death, loneliness and darkness.

A very select few metal songs are about the aforementioned subjects. Do a little research before making a statement like this. As every person on these forums with an open mind will tell you, you have no clue. If you'd like to talk about pointless music, I shall give you one example. A song by Rihanna about a sodding umbrella. Compare this against Virgin Steele's song 'The Final Days' an in depth song about the decay of western youth. Now tell me which is pointless? That involves death... but not only that. Im not a big fan of Rihanna, but the song DOES have meaning. It talks about having shelter in dark times, if you cared to look at the lyrics. And always being able to see a light in the worst of times... saying someone can depend on you to be there for them. Take a look: http://www.metrolyrics.com/umbrella-lyrics-rihanna.html
    3) Nothing to connect or relate to, nothing that actually MEANS anything to a person.#

Have some examples, free of charge

A song about a guy whose woman is cheating on him, and him not being able to let go. Loneliness/Darkness
    http://www.darklyrics.com/lyrics/sonataarctica/silence.html#7

A song about wanting someone you cannot have. Lonlieness
    http://www.darklyrics.com/lyrics/norther/n.html#12

A song about trying to come to terms with the loss of your father. [ Death
    http://www.darklyrics.com/lyrics/testament/theformationofdamnation.html#9

I guess no-one can relate to any of these things huh? I guess none of these can offer any inspirational thoughts.

    Game, set, match.
I left some comments in blue throughout that.
And the last part was extremely hypocritical... i looked at the lyrics and all those songs either involved Death, Darkness, or Loneliness... right after you said that most didn't.

Plus, you tell me to do some research... maybe you need to practice what you preach. Im not a Rihanna fan, but look what I said about that part.

Death.. Darkness.. Lonliness.. It's a part of metal, and it can inspire some. Not that I encourage it, but some are inspirational.
Metal's lyrics are more complicated. It's literature, and some are just amazing works of art. For Example:

It's about death.. So what, it has deep philosophical meanings if you interpret it.
Also, metal isn't random screaming. For example:

Sorry, Skirata already got it. He's too good at this... we may have to 'eliminate' him.

Anyways, third round is up. For all you philistinic boors out there, this one's from a band which is certainly not metal, and barely qualifies as rock. Power-pop would be a good way to put it.
