the cost is in the 50 heroes you lose.

due to the recent update and change to abatis, if you were o send 1000 scouts on an attack to a city with even 100 abatis they along with the hero leading the attack will die, unless you are very lucky and get lvl1-5 heores all the time 50 attacks can happily cost you half a mil in gold.
