Now the question, regarding legit players: Is it sporting to steal their valleys or just dishonorable behavior? Is stealing valleys in general legitimate game play or is it dishonorable/poor sportsmanship/bad behavior?

It seems to me that most honorable folks here feel stealing valleys is rude and poor sportsmanship, but it is also part of the game. You can defend your valleys but there is a BUG in the game that doesn't allow you to know exactly how long it will take to defend your valley until you actually launch (and it's always longer than it should take for some reason.) In fact, the attack dialog window reports reinforcement time to be 30-50% shorter than it actually when you launch.

I know of a player that is currently hospitalized and had to use holiday mode. Of course the player's enemies knew that and still stole all the valleys. Is that sporting?

It seems to me that cheaters need to have a different kind of suspension than holiday mode OR valleys should be protected in holiday mode. It seems unfair that a player has to pay for something cheaters get for free - AND suffer losing their hard fought valleys for no fault of their own.
Its fair play, 90% of te non-forced holiday's i see from players are caused by my alliance wiping the floor with them and them wanting to not have their city stolen by us. So they holiday hoping we'll forget about them while they're on holiday.
