Good for you I have nothing against you not wanting to use it(for now). But most people, I'm talking about the big players who keep over 3-4 million archers like to fight, and most of them fight with other big players, hence the huge armies. So why can't they have fun? I know that most big players never attack new ones, so why are the new ones making a big deal about something that eventually will come and bite them in the, you know where?
Three times I quit this game and three times I came back, I think this is my last time unless things change. I don't want to come across as threatening Evony but I just don't have the time to farm, and I'm not alone.
Off Topic- but the only way you get on the good side of evony is by making poignant, snarky comments at the perfect time- with the right amount of zest and Paprika that gives that extra little furrowed bro of wow.
So, here we go.
1. Evony is a social site, with the side note of limited warfare. Lets all be completely honest, could you imagine if all those changes made that would allow unlimited troops, 0 upkeep; this and that so it is a war game and you can end up marching 100x the speed of cool? This would be like CivIII meets call of duty Multi Player. Everyone would end up bashed like crazy and ground down.
This can become a seperate argument about whether it is better for a server to slowly stale to death or catch on fire- we can do that later.
People show up, and if they are not anti-social weirdos they will find a decent alliance- and you will find yourself spending the off time farming and not really think about it because you are having fun with the chat.
And then the attacks are that much sweeter, because you now have a semi vested interest in sacrificing your troops to save Taj the irate Indian in the alliance; Or Bonnie the crazy dog lady who announces to the chat how each one of her precious little ankle biters are.
If you notice, the people who get burned out the most; who do naughty 3rd party software are those who usually feel like they have to somehow be the best, in prestige and honor or whatever. These are the same guys who will send insulting mails to some poor 13 year old kid when they broke the defenses to a city- who starts to refer to themselves in the third person and then also when they make a HUGE Hit they jump up and dance and high five...... the imaginary person who is in their basement supporting them.
I have a hell of a lot more than 1000 archers, then again i am not a noob and make sure to do my farming daily.
Part of the reason i support a company that supports its honest players is the simple fact that if i want to play competitively i do not want to be forced to make a moral decision. Also if i am successful i want to know it is through my actions, not through those of a computer playing for me. And finally if i lose i do not want to feel bitter about losing to a cheater, i want to know i lost to a better player.
If it didn't kill u it made u stronger. We've all lost cities to one another. Like I said when you reach the point where you need to have at least 3 to 4 million archers only then come and talk to me about farming and keeping up the troops.
If you had been able to keep more troops you wouldn't have lost those cities!
Question: I assume you need those 3-4 million archers in order to defend against all those other people with 3-4 million archers? In order for those other people to maintain their armies, they must either be cheating, or spending the time on the game to gather all that food. If cheating is not available, the number of people with such armies will be lower. And if you're willing to spend the amount of time/effort on the game necessary to maintain that level, don't you deserve to be the best?
Please don't bring up the "no life" argument. Frankly, if you don't have the time to play a game the way the designers meant you to play it, then you just plain don't have the time to play it. Play a different game that you do have the time for.
I'm with Aramis. The *** users are for the most part those that need to be uber-best in prestige, honor, etc. but I think the game is more than just about that. This game requires learning how to acquire and manage resources to build an army and compete. (as most strategy games do) And it requires that you do it in concert with other people.
Anyone with a large enough army can follow the formula by now: find a person who is offline, take out defenses with waves of archers if gates are closed then pound with 5k waves of cav until you drive loyalty low enough to conquer. Its not exactly rocket science, is it?
So after a point the game has to have another dimension to keep you playing. And that's where the social relations with people in your alliance comes in. Sharing tips and strategies, supporting one another, helping the new guy or gal learn the ropes - those things are all rewarding. Enough so to make the monotony or routine of farming to stay in the game worthwhile.
They are definately missing cheaters I agree. I don't know what their plans are nor their methodologies for "catching" cheaters, but those who were caught probably all have something similar in common i.e. they are all running the same bott probably one that's easily found and downloaded via google.
