Thread: Flaw in Fighting Mechanics

    Default Flaw in Fighting Mechanics

The range factor that plays out in fighting really makes no sense in terms of needing "combined arms."

Archers unaccompanied were not an "effective" army. Yet you can just zerg your archer numbers, upgrade the archery tech as far as you can, and have an army of Archers and Fodder.

Really that is what the game comes down to. And its worse against the defensive mechanics. At this point, its the worst invested expenditure in the game.

When you can have 10k traps, 3k towers, 1k logs and rockfalls, and nearly have all of that wiped (saved a few thousand traps and a few hundred rocks) by just a zerg of archers (80k archers/10k warriors) the point of a defense, its cost and time to build is pointless since it can all just be countered to the most basic units.

The fact that you can wipe any basic defenses without needing siege is a major flaw. The fact that you have to open gates in order to fight is another flaw. There should be a sally tech that would allow larger percentages of your troops fight with closed gates. Archers should always fight.

The game itself does nothing to incorporate the idea of mixed units. I suggest they do away with what they have, they can rename the archers to "the unit" and make 1 other unit type called "fodder."

Since thats all this game needs.

Thats all you have against this game?

Well, considering its a game built around "war" and it fails at how the "war" is played out, I'd consider it a rather major flaw.

I've seen several people in our alliance, established players that quit over it. I am on the teeter myself given that it makes no sense at how things can play out right now.

I work in development, I game plenty enough to know this game is in its infant stages, but if they don't adapt their fighting styles, people will be leaving in droves once they can see how rediculous it is.

As i see it, the other guy had way stronger force than you did. This kind of force should only be defened with force of equal ratio (or traps and towers). When 80k archers come to you city, you better have way more defences that what you had.

In this game defending is way easier than in many other games alike. If you have even half of what enemy has, the offender always looses more than defender.

And in real world, big fortifications were rarely conquered with force, they usualy were sieged till defenders run out of water and food

I'd agree to an extent on numbers, he had far more than I had Zsteel.

HOWEVER-I did under 3000 casualties, and while my archery tech isn't 10, its pretty darn close.

Second, there should be a fine line when siege is needed and when its not. To tackle a defensive structure that is even modest in numbers, you should need siege. And the bottom line is, you don't.

You can build a cheaper unit in larger quantities that give you more chances for casualties, and are cheaper to replace and just zerg in 1 unit type.

My concern is the range and speed being the only things that seem to matter and it causing issues. Main issue is if you try to use fodder, and 'the unit' as you say, your archers are faster than alot of the fodder, and thus run in front of the fodder and get attacked. And cavalry is useless in my pinion because it tends to run way far ahead and just get owned. I have not had my cavalry in one battle yet where there were any survivors. The combat model needs to have archers behind the fodder, cavalry not engage until X number of rounds after infantry does, and some changes need to be made into what targets when, maybe even allowing players to somewhat script their battle AI? Prioritizing certain units, or ordering some units not to engage for a few rounds to allow us to use different units in different ways. As it stands now all the game is involves sending a few thousands warriors to absorb traps, then sending a few thousand archers to kill teh rest and take the city.

The biggest problem with archers is that they dont miss with that attack ... in reality its easier to kill 10 out of 1000 with volley of arrows than 10 out of 10. In thig game however archers seems to always hit with equal ratio.

But i still like the system more than other games iv played of this type. At least here there is small difference in what you put up against. I hope they will improve it a bit more ^^

I agree thou that things like archer towers should be less vulnerable to arrow fire that what they currently are. Stationary archer with higher ground advantage should outperform the archer hitting it from below. A way better than atm anyway ...

    OP nailed it.

The game is a Zerg-e-Mon delight.
Dont waste your time trying to make things complex. Dont waste your time trying to be tactical or strategic.

Jump server 7, bail on everything you have left behind. Build 10's of thousands of Warriors and archers, leave protection and spam the AI in day 3. If it fails, if someone hits your city, ditch the account, do it again.

The restart game has been disabled from the get go. The fail factor is 100% once you are plundered, depth doesnt exsist. You might as well be playing online checkers.

I agree with the OP as well, even though your example of 80k archers vs. 3k towers and some odd defenses is not a good one.

However, range is king in this game and because of the archer tech, archers have a huge bonus in their attack. There prob needs to be a tech where infantry units move faster in battle to counter that. The attack and defense tech is nice, but it won't help a single troop that fails to even make it to the archers.

Archers are broken. Allow me to demonstrate:

Note in that single attack, the attacker got over 400k honor.
