    Back on topic, Poland was the birthplace of the Prince of the Romantics himself, Frederic Chopin. What a superb artist he was!

    I would have guessed that burek = pepper, but I'm working with a slightly different branch of Slavic language here.

    Yup. That's true of most Central European Slavic cultures. In lots of world cultures the birthday just isn't that big a deal. Remembering significant family members' "deathdays" is important in some Southern Slavic cultures.

    Every day of the year has the name of a saint assigned to it. You celebrate your name day on the day associated with the saint who has the same name as you. It's right there on the calendar.
