Default Valleys- hills, forests and deserts

i can understand these valleys being conquered early on, but when a server gets to a certain stage these valleys dont have any effect. what i mean is when you resources go over the capacity limit your city is no longer producing any of these resources so effectively the valley is useless. my main gripe is about lvl10 forests they give you a 23% bonus production however if you farm them you get 1m lumber on average from them per hour, so in my calculations to get a better return from conqering them, your city with the valley would have to have a base production of 4m lumber per hour. please tell me if this seems foolish but surely its better to leave these valleys empty?

Sure, you can gain 1 mil lumber/ hour when your online and farming, but what about when your offline? Say you spend 4 hours a day on evony farming that gains you about 4 mil lumber. The 23% increase works 24 hours a day. I am not going to do the actual math because I dont feel like it, but I think the gain from 24 hours is greater than the 4 million you gain from farming.

I think you're neglecting the cumulative effect of valleys. Sure, 1 valley is 23%, but what if you have 10 forests? It would be hard to match that kind of production bonus by farming them.

dont forget lakes as well, 35% each i believe, thats a 350% bonus with 10 lakes, and give yourself a 150+ hero and you make 1.5 mil food a hour at the least... which is very beneficial for small server players

I do both. I have a lumber city with 40 saw mills, and 10 lvl 10 forests going. I then farm forests for even more lumber. Why stop at either/or when doing both gets you massive net gains in resources?

    Default Not thinking clearly!

You all missed the fact that
The Lv10 will be Lv1 the next day!
    if it isn't conquered!
Thus turning your 1mil per hour to 100k per hour the next day.
now it doesn't take a mathmatical genius to also add that you would have to wait another 9 days till it reached Lv10 again.

The benefit of Conquering the valley at Lv10 far outweigh trying to farm it.
    Thats a FACT!

    1. You could always conquer it then release it to stop it being cycled to lvl1.

    2. If you have a more balanced city you loose much of the benefit of the % prod increase.

3.some people seem to play almost 24/7.

Its a failing of this game that you are allowed to have a monoculture without any of the obvious historical and present day disadvantages - like disease and pestilence. The games market unlike real life also takes no account of the bargaining disadvantage a non-monopolistic monoculture has. In Real life it is not at all surprising that countries that concentrate on one cash crop get paid a pittance - bananas, cocoa, tea and coffee ... to name but a few.

I agree though, due to the mechanics of the game it really does make sense to go for sawmills and 10x lvl10 forests.

edit - I forgot to mention, hitting valleys means you get to kill off troops (so you can make more and get more prestige) get xp and prestige and the possibility of getting medals which almost always are found in high lvl valleys on the server I play.

1 freak loss on a lvl10 valley and you've been farming valleys all day for nothing.

I rather have em as mine.

There shouldn't be a "freak loss" unless you weren't paying attention, but that can happen regardless of what you are doing, even farming level 5s.
But....the eternal ray of sunshine REALLY wanted to see you, so I helped brighten your day by removing the city from around you! ^.^

Though I see the advantage of farming valleys, it depends entirely on your situation whether its viable or not, and I think in most situations it will not be in your advantage:

    - you depend on your availability of open rally spot marches. If you farm NPCs for food as well, you're likely to have many, if not all, slots filled.
    - you can still farm something (NPCs) besides having the valleys in possession. If you attack valleys you don't own the maximum amount, hence losing on steady income slightly with every valley you don't own at that time.
    - depending on your army and whether you send out other waves, sending out your archers with a little rainbow to safely attack lv 8/9/10 valleys could leave you vulnerable
    - if and when you are planning on doing anything else than farming your valleys, you will have most of your attack heroes and (perhaps) also offensive troops in use.

In general I think farming valleys instead of owning them and farming NPCs instead is a whole lot of a hassle. You're narrowing your own playing field, making it more difficult to respond to incoming attacks, and forcing yourself to be online more than you would have to be setting up an NPC run. Then there is the risk of your high level valleys getting captured by other players, denying you your farm runs.

The only reason I can think of to farm valleys is to get your medals, really.
