Thread: Does paying give a significant advantage

Default Does paying give a significant advantage

Ok this is for a discussion, does spending money really give you a great advantage in this game, my opinion is a little but not a big advantage, here is my argument.

Break it down on what is available to buy in there categories

    Production buffs:
I say no advantage here, they are great to win a double saw or blast furnace on the wheel but really provide only a marginal production boost on a single resource. I can produce over 1 million in wood or iron in this type of city with all level 10 valleys and a decent pol hero (140+). It is valley, technology and hero that provides the bulk of your production.

    Speedups:
well early in the life of server, yes they provide a little advantage but one can be competitive using what the quests give you.

    Medals:
Here yes is a good place to spend money to gain an advantage after all this game is about how many troops you can produce and proficiency of battle mechanics (some would say diplomacy helps also, lol). More cities more barracks more troops and the faster you can get these cities efficient the better.

    Resources:
Again early in the game maybe, but it is really expensive to buy them in any significant qty for a developed server.

    Items:
I don't think there are many Items that really provide much of an advantage here are the ones that can
Teleports: dropping a city in a different state and attacking an alliance in that state adds a different element to this game and makes it fun. An alliance that has lots of teleporters can really dominate a server if done right, but so can an alliance that is good at utilize insta conquer on level 10's.
Excaliber: after all the attack hero is arguably the most significant tactical advantage in the entire game buffing a great hero with an excaliber puts your troop production on steroids. Not to mention if you attack with this hero the damage it can do. If your going to spend money at $4.00 per week if this is the only thing purchased, I am convinced you can be just as effective as some on spending considerably more than that.
Other items such as ivory horns, corselets, and Ensigns are nice but the buffed hero really can make these items not nearly as important.

Point being I spend $4 per week for an excaliber that is it. Combine that with knowing your battle mechanics and 18hours a day online (even a big spender needs to spend tons of time online to feed the troops) money becomes somewhat secondary. My opinion, many may disagree but hey that is why they call it a forum

    Good Day

I find that my endgame setup looks VERY similar whether I spent money on the server or not. Servers that I spent a little money on got there faster, but there's not much difference in the end.

Paying money is just the price of impatience. It mostly just speeds things up.

The only thing I see a point for spending is excalibers, and sometimes a large amount of amulets. The amulets are for teleports, ivory horns, and penicillin. The amulets aren't necessary, but help.

Quite a few who do spend big are absolute idiots at this game. A brain goes a lot further than money does in Evony. I regularly get asked how much I have spent on this game or get comments like using Mummys credit card again. People don’t believe me when I say $5 (personally the only package worth what you pay for it). A logical approach very early on in the game can put you at the top of the food chain and once there, you own everyone around you. I don’t need to spend a cent to be farming NPCs 4 days into a server. I have a set logical approach when I start a server that does me well.

I agree early in the game it can make a difference to spend. But your right money doesn't buy you intelligence and doesn't build you good cities that make long term prosperity in this game. Although I am wondering know if Mich scripts aren't becoming a need to buy. Seems like Evony Devs have tightened up the drop rates from NPC's. I used to get 3-4 a week now I haven't gotten one for quite some time.

It makes no difference at all whatsoever whether or not you spend unless you do not have a brain. You can get to "endgame" i.e. all level 10 buildings, reasearches, ability to make instant troops, etc. without spending any money at all and it doesn't take much more time, and the time saved is definately NOT worth the money. You'll win enough pennicillins, horns, ensigns etc, and you just need to overgrind your hero so you don't need to buy excaliburs.

You want a "significant advantage"? To obtain that people use automated programs to play and they start multiple accounts. Something evony has not been able to reign in.

    Default money

Spending money gives u significant advantage:-

    1)excaliber
    2)Teleports
    3)On war's

    - Any one of these can seriously impact on your attack ability and although they can be won in game via amulets and occasionaly in battles, having a supply of these and being willing to use them gives a massive advantage.

    Defending

    4) Dream Truce
    5) Holiday
    6) Speech Text

More recently the introduction of Dream Truce and Holiday (if you can work out how to combine (bug/exploit) these and the lack of cooldown when used correctly again give a money spender the ability to succesfully defend with much greater success than a non spender.

If you are attacking my city and it takes (for example) 1hr for you to get the loyalty down from 100-5 and I speech text for the 3rd/5th/8th time, i bet your patience runs out before my credit card.

If you are spending money on the game its important to buy the correct items, having bought chests that award amulets and being the proud owner of inexcess of 40weeks adv quarry - i think i can argue the fact that this item is worth xxx cents to me now.

People are correct that player skill is important - i dont disagree a skillful player will still be able dominate a unskillful money spender, but if you happen to be playing against an online skillful player who has spent decent money on the game then you are in for a difficult time!.

Money spent wisely will always give the player an advantage. IMO

On older servers, yes- The large players that have payed give them great advantage.

On newer servers, no- Its still an even playing field.

(1)heroes are the most important part of the game.

(2)the most important hero attribute is attack value.

(3)the only item that increases attack value is excalibur, which adds 25% attack for 7 days when applied.

(4)excalibur is ONLY obtainable through spending money.

    do the math (or logic).

Wait a second... in this post you say you're here because its free, but in a previous post of yours you say that there should be a monthly subscription fee.

Which is it? Free or not free
