UGH there's already been a thread about this, I'll sum it up for ya: It hinges on the "slang" portion:
slang1 /sl?ŋ/ Show Spelled[slang] Show IPA
?noun
1.very informal usage in vocabulary and idiom that is characteristically more metaphorical, playful, elliptical, vivid, and ephemeral than ordinary language, as Hit the road. (this is not the definition you're using)
2.(in English and some other languages) speech and writing characterized by the use of vulgar and socially taboo vocabulary and idiomatic expressions. (this is not the definition you're using)
3.the jargon of a particular class, profession, etc. (this IS the definition you're using)
The jargon of a particular class: in this case the uneducated. The word troll stands on its own with its own classical definition and operates perfectly when used in regards to certain behaviors on a forum. The definition of troll that fits is this: To run an "active" lure by trailing behind a boat or some other means of actively moving the lure. Trollers are not simly being negative, that's just BUNGHOLES. Trollers by definition are trying to "bait" people into arguements fights flames etc.
Just because the certain class of people: the uneducated get together and define a slang term from their contextual definitions of the word doesn't make them grammatically correct. You may have a different defintion for the word "faggot" however the real word means:
fagg?ot /ˈf?gət/ Show Spelled[fag-uht] Show IPA
?noun
1.a bundle of sticks, twigs, or branches bound together and used as fuel, a fascine, a torch, etc.
Slang is a sign of LACK of education, you can't claim it as a sign that you are somehow more educated for incorrect word usage.
Using slang from definition Number 3 makes you sound almost as bad as those who continually use slang from definition number 2 (those who cuss)
