    Default violance in games

I would like to hear what your thoughts are on violance in games

do they make people more violent?

who is to blame when someone coppies stuff from games and gets hurt or hurts others?

    and other stuff like that

    and please seriousness only.....

i have to write a 10 page essey on violance in games for ym ethical/critical thinking class, and one of my research sources is what the public thinks.

i have several sources of research i have to use and the thoughts and opinions of the public is one of them.

Well, violence in video games does make us violent... I once hit my friend in the face because I was acting like Lanky from Donkey Kong. (Long story, don't ask).

I never became violent until I had to eat something. Never watched anything about throwing knives at my big brother that time (LOOOONg time ago)

I say that in general, videogames DO NOT in any way cause violence. I'll address Joe's example in a little bit.

If anything, videogames prevent violence more than they cause it. In my case, I've sometimes seen a lack of videogames cause violence. I can cite many examples of times when videogames have saved me from punching yet another hole in my wall. Being able to vent anger on videogames helps to stifle the acts of violence in the real world.

Now, for examples such as Joe's, I say that since that isn't violence caused by anger, rather being violence caused by a simple whim, it likely would have happened in some way whether or not videogames were involved. Videogames, I beleive, were simply a catalyst.

EDIT: Being bad at videogames, however, can definitely cause violence. I know someone who 's been known to throw his controllers against the wall and shout "The ing computer is ing cheating!" and storm out of the room yelling. I've seen it happen. The sad thing is it happens during offline single player games and multiplayer games equally. That's called an UBERRAGEQUITFAIL.

So what will you do when they call your name and you're not ready to go?
Everyone will stare at you and tell you what you know
That you're in too deep and you can't quite keep your secrets, one and all
We might just make it after all, on our own

I personally used to play GTA all teh time, and I'm more or less a pacifist... I don't like to fight at all. Sure, I'll yell at ya, but I won't resort to physical violence unless its absolutely necessary.

I personally think that only the weak minded are influenced by video games. If they can't tell the difference between RL and video games, then they shouldn't play at all.

I have to say, I agree with Trog. Usually, beating on game slimes and everything helps me calm down. It gives me something else to focus on for a while, until the first layers of temper fade. Plus, if I manage to do something, like a game goal, it adds a sense of "Okay, at least something in this world of mine is going good".

That being said, I also have a friend who has a tendancy to throw her controller at the TV. If you have game rage issues, you should NOT be playing games like Tetris or Dr. Mario. :P

Special Props To Don Ezio for this!
