Thread: Building a barb farm ?

Default Building a barb farm ?

So, I had this thought, since a city you abandon reverts to a barb city of the level of the flat you built it on. I was thinking I could capture a flat next to my main city, start a new city, and then abandon it and then have a handy, nearby city to farm for resources, instead of the existing ones that are an hour and more away.

So anyone see any flaws to this logic, other then the lost prestige from abandoning a city. No idea how much prestige you lose since I never abandoned one before.

I may be showing my inexperience, but i dont think attacking barb cities are really worth it for me.

It's not that i cant win the fight; its the amount of troops I lose to the traps for so little gain in resources makes me look for inactive players instead. And chances are i already hit them before so i dont have to worry about losing any troops.

After coming out of protection today I thought I would pilage a lv.2 barb town near me. Scouted first, hardly any troops but 2000 traps. Not knowing how harmful traps are I sent 500 troops over easily outnumbering the towns troops.

I learned the hard way traps are not to be trifled with lol

The world is a dangerous place, not because of those who do evil, but because of those who look on and do nothing.

Unlucky mate, just remember that traps affect infantry and cav, not siege, and the losses are spread among all the units you send.

Ballistas, and transports, in enough number can attack a barbarian city, take the resources, and not suffer a single loss. I just attacked a level 5 barbarian city and came away with just shy of 4 million in total resources. No fortification can hit Ballistas or Catapults. You just need to be able to wipe out the troops prior to being able to be in range to attack.
Writing for me is difficult. I often over think and write in ways where people become confused. If only I could write as well as I can look at data and draw conclusions from the data.

Yes the Ballista, transport route is the way to go for now. They take out any towers and troops, and just bypass the traps and abatis.

Of course I do see that as not being right, and wouldn't be surprised if it was changed, but for now once you have some Ballistas built up, it makes for cheap and easy resources and gold.

Your logic is fine Jadrek, i've done it a couple of times to make closer farms. Not sure about prestige loss, i've aboandoned a number of citeis, for various reasons, and if there is a loss i didn't even notice it lol.

I'm pretty sure you don't lose any prestige. I've made a couple level 5's right next to my cities for happy farming and steady resources. I don't even bother with my fields anymore.
