Losing the hyperlinks pretty much killed the stealthy bot.
Now they have to be far more clever to sell their product or site without being obvious.

So in the old days you would get something like:

Each underlined word would probably be a link to an adult site.
These days without those hidden links, most spambots just fail but I have seen a couple that were very hard to detect as bots.
