Apologies if i made it seem that i took his swords, pikes and warriors out in one foul swoop. To clarify, they were different attacks.
Ok, i don't know how to make pictures of them unfortunately, but they'll be readable for a couple of days i guess unless someone can either post them for me or let me know how to. The first one was a speculative one, but it did more damage than what i thought:

Then i thought to myself that since the sword numbers were lower than archer numbers, scout bombs would either hit warriors or archers. So i sent a bomb or two to see which, but he took the majority of the archers out of the city so that they didn't get hit. Either way, i'm not sure if the scouts would have targeted the warriors or archers at this stage, but then i just followed up with some more archer waves. Not sure if his alliance reinforced with archers for this next one, but he has more archers in the city in the next attack:

For some reason in my very next attack, he pulls out some swords. The net result is it lets me have at the warriors:

Then for some reason, the swords reappear:

I should have realised as much during the attacks that his archers were now exposed, but i was a little late. So i sent off a number of scout bombs to whittle down archer numbers at which point he decided to port.
On the bright side of things, he has a very well set up npc farming network which i will now occupy.
A question i have is about the layering i used. Do i need to use as many as 1000 units for layers? Am i using too few, in fact? Are some of the layering troops giving my archers more strife than help? I just had the idea that the archers will move into position, while all the other troops move forward at their own individual pace forcing the opposing army to take them down before they can get to my archers, but i realise that i may very well be in error here. If someone could let me know it would be much appreciated.
