Well, like me and Lazz stated, the Real Hardcore Server thread in the Game Suggestions box is almost asking the same thing, and I believe that Thalin posted in there saying that he and the rest of the dev team were interested and watching the thread carefully.
He isn't the only one thinking about Evony in the same way
Lastly, in real life, you CAN speed up a project in several different ways, each making you spend more cash, and possibly resources, but it still speeds it up. Some of those ways are adding more people to build (Empire Earth implements this very well), or using different building methods, using different tools, etc. (Which is almost what Evony has now with the guidelines). Also, yes, I agree, its real time. However, that shouldn't mean it takes that much real time out of your day. Games such as LOTR: BMEII and Star Wars: Empire at War are both considered to be in the MMORTS (Mass Multiplayer Online Real Time Strategy, for those wondering what that was) genre, and the building times on there are also greatly reduced. The only other way to combat the build times on Evony are to add a queue like Evony had back when it was still in its Age I beta phase. It would help get the town up and running a bit faster. Or, if they don't want to do that, at least let somebody build in the city tab and the town tab at the same time. Real Time shouldn't mean all day in a game. Even Thalin has said that they DID take a few liberties on the game's realism, so if you'll do that for troops, why not do that for buildings?
I think for an idea such as this, would be to make another test server, with some of these ideas implemented, (of course after Age II has become stable and there is less work to do on it) and let the players test it out. If it works, try implementing it onto the servers. If it doesn't, find out what didn't work, reset the test server, and try again without the stuff that wasn't working; rinse, repeat. I know how you feel that OP may sound selfish in requesting this, but they aren't the first person to do so, and they aren't the only person who want it.
