He isn't the only one thinking about Evony in the same way

Lastly, in real life, you CAN speed up a project in several different ways, each making you spend more cash, and possibly resources, but it still speeds it up. Some of those ways are adding more people to build (Empire Earth implements this very well), or using different building methods, using different tools, etc. (Which is almost what Evony has now with the guidelines). Also, yes, I agree, its real time. However, that shouldn't mean it takes that much real time out of your day. Games such as LOTR: BMEII and Star Wars: Empire at War are both considered to be in the MMORTS (Mass Multiplayer Online Real Time Strategy, for those wondering what that was) genre, and the building times on there are also greatly reduced. The only other way to combat the build times on Evony are to add a queue like Evony had back when it was still in its Age I beta phase. It would help get the town up and running a bit faster. Or, if they don't want to do that, at least let somebody build in the city tab and the town tab at the same time. Real Time shouldn't mean all day in a game. Even Thalin has said that they DID take a few liberties on the game's realism, so if you'll do that for troops, why not do that for buildings?

I think for an idea such as this, would be to make another test server, with some of these ideas implemented, (of course after Age II has become stable and there is less work to do on it) and let the players test it out. If it works, try implementing it onto the servers. If it doesn't, find out what didn't work, reset the test server, and try again without the stuff that wasn't working; rinse, repeat. I know how you feel that OP may sound selfish in requesting this, but they aren't the first person to do so, and they aren't the only person who want it.
Let me go one at a time.

Yes, but in evony, why should you be able to have everything sped of FOR you? Are you really that impatient? Real Time games are all about patience... the times do not have to be REAL... but they should not be too cut down either. What you talk about does NOT involve spending resources, or hiring more workers. You speak of the Devs creating a new server FOR you, where everything is ALREADY sped up. Does that sound realistic? Trust me... people would simply find a way to complain that it was too short, and too short, and repeat. Nobody impatient will ever be satisfied with a TRUE Real-Time game.

I couldn't agree with you more, here. A queue would be an excellent idea. Same times, but you can have multiple projects in line to be completed one after the other. In real life, you can build more than one building at once, So thank you, for proving my point.

Do two wrongs make a right? The typical mistake. "Well, we already went wrong... it couldnt hurt to do it again!" The fact is, you suggest a game filed under the category "Semi-Not-So-Real Time" acer, aside from your personal preferences, you must understand that Real Time is what it is! Whether you accept it or not, Real Time is meant to be REALISTIC. REAL! Or at least as close as they dare get! Evony cannot adjust the definition of Real Time because a few players were too impatient to wait the required time! We would all like faster building and etc, of course. It seems more convenient to us. And we will ALWAYS want faster building, no matter how fast they make it! That is human nature, to want more. Give them a taste of what they want, they will want more. You must stick to the principles of Real Time. Someone gives you a chocolate square... you will want another. They give you 3 chocolate squares... you're not full, so you will want more. You will want more and more until you are full.

1. I agree. A test server would be best. Everything should be tested, and I have no problem with that.

2. The OP simply wants a custom server, and that is exactly how he describes it. Evony cannot meet his needs! As I said before, they must stick to their rules! Once they start straying, everybody will want to change them! If people got what they wanted, every game would be so uber'ed up by the players it wouldn't even be fun. What you give to one person, is given to everybody else. Simply lowering the bar wouldn't make it more fun, it would just set new standards! If everyone builds faster, and everyone moves faster, then what are they moving faster THAN? The old evony? Technically yes... but think of it this way:

Old Evony: 1 Square Per 5 Minutes
New Evony: 5 Squares Per 5 Minutes (1 Square Per Minute)

Now. In the old evony, EVERYBODY moves 1 square per 5 minutes, correct? Therefore, theoretically, everybody will travel a certain distance at the same set time. That rule will ALWAYS APPLY!! Since New and Old evony could not co-exist, you cannot compare them. You must compare PLAYER speeds, and the basic player speed is always the same. (Aside from techs, but that is not the Devs job)

No matter if it is 100 squares per minute, the same rule will apply: Everybody travels x distance in y time. If x = 5y, and you are traveling 5 miles... 5 in 25 minutes is the SET TIME FOR THE GAME! (Or 1 mile for every 5 minutes) You are not making it faster, or slower, you are simply setting a new standard time in which the game revolves around. So who is going faster than who? How is anyone gaining an advantage? If nobody is gaining an advantage, what is the point? Sped up gameplay? If buildings are finished earlier, you will spend your entire day building more. If marches are faster, you will spend you whole day spending more. So dont give me this "Evony waiting takes up your whole day crap," Because people will take advantage of the sped of times, to simply BUILD MORE.

I just hurt my own head... let me rephrase that.

Yes. 1 mile per minute is faster than 1 mile per 5 minutes. But in the end, it wont make a difference, because everybody goes 1 mile per minute. Get it now?
