    Hmm..
    Interesting.
    I am getting different results.
    One report, I get a 1-rounder. Another report, I get a 2-rounder.

    Assumeing all techs and walls lv 10.

    Ballista will start the fight at range 2800

    On turn one attacking cav move 1500 and defending warriors move 400.

    They are not within range of each other yet.

    Battle starts at 1600.
    Battle starting range is base range of the highest range unit + 200.
    Ballista base range=1400+200=1600.
    Quit.

    Ballista gain archery tech bonus and wall bonus. I don't know about the +200 that you speak of for starting range. If that is so then I learned something new. Back to the point though,

    Ballista range of 1400 + archery tech + wall bonus = 2800 (3000 if they do indeed get a +200)

    They get the range bonus to their firing range, not the starting range.

    Starting goes off base.

    Basically, in starting range, the defender's research does not matter.
    It's just the base range + 200. I don't know where we got the 200 from, I just read it somewhere, and tested it to find out it makes sense and works.

    The most effective tactic I know is to knock out their valleys, and also to farm away at the NPC's they normally farm--every last one of them...


    That will starve out their troops, and cause him to attack you, which is after all the better position, as defense is favored in the game...
