Staff Icon AgeII and the Attack button

I know this is one of the hot topics lately, and I want to give you a place to discuss it. Those of you in this forum have shown an amazing ability to post coherent, logical, thoughtful, and courteous discussions. We appreciate that and we do listen!

While I cannot make any promises about this issue, I want you to know that the dev team has been discussing it a lot lately and is working on finding a solution that will be appropriate for the game but will also satisfy the majority of our players. You are welcome to put forth your own thoughts on this. We like hearing what you have to say.

Well I only play AgeI, but i have heard of many of the disputes going on concerning the colonizing button. The people who complain about the no attack come onto the forums and whine, the ones that dont mind the no attack dont make forums accounts just to show their pleasure of the no attack. So even though a lot of people are upset on the forums concerning the no attack button, the people who dont mind it are not on the forums to counter-act that...

Since we are keeping AgeI alive still, it is highly recommended for the people who like the attack button to move to AgeI and stick with AgeI if they really want the attack button... The colonizing button makes the game so much smoother and less stress on people who have school works and jobs... If you submit to an attack button, you just made the game more hardcore for everyone, and maybe people dont want hardcore, they are on AgeII after all...

I have found that without an attack option the game gets boring very fast.
Also age 2 tends to be more for active players than casual as only the active ones will ever be able to take a historic city and attack as usual.
Only a small percentage of people will play age 2 servers for more than a few months. I think putting the attack option in will be the best move ever made to make age 2 better.

I would prefer a compromise--the attack button added for hardcore players, and the colonize button handy for obvious reasons...

The attack button would be fast-paced, and could be used on neutrals.

However, the colonize would take the usual 8 hours, because of the sheer amount of control that a guy can impose on his captive city...

I my personal opinion, this will add a LOT of suspense to the game, as well as a whole new level of gameplay and mechanics...

For example, you wouldn't attack your protectorate, but if you are able to maintain control over it, then that is a major plus...

If you simply attack though, all you get is resources...

Forgive me for interjecting, but one of the other "hot topics" is "Missing Troops" and/or "When will we get my/our troops back"...

I think this needs to be addressed as a matter of urgency, as with no stability in this arena, the discussion of "Attack Button" is somewhat premature.

Joycey, thank you for your feedback, and those issues will be addressed separately in an appropriate manner. The rules of this particular forum section are quite clear, though. All posts must remain on the topic stated. Derailment does not accomplish the objective of garnering solid feedback on a given issue.

Please keep all further posts specifically on-topic here, or they will be removed.

I think a good way to moderate attacks while keeping it fair for new players will be to maintain the declaration system in place for colonisation and allow the option to attack in addition to colonise.

Well I asked around and passed the idea Jurnis proposed(See above) in WC on my server (NA1). Most people were happy with the idea of being able to attack (with Attack Button) on neutrals and also adamant about being able to keep colonize as well (lol).

I believe that at this point many old players would welcome the attacks of ole; However, many of the new to evony would find it difficult and they are happy with age 2 as it stands. If the developers were to change the mechanics in age 2 and allow attacks, from what i have gathered from my server it would be a folly to make it like age 1. As all the new to evony players would find themselves out matched by the older players accustomed to such.

A compromise is needed and 2 older players i know and spoke with said that the ability to attack neutrals would be a very warmly received aspect that would lend itself to bringing more older players into the new servers. Again I do caution changing it outright as even older players said to me that they know that all the new players would be bombarded and destroyed if they allowed out right attacks again, creating another snafu for evony.

*EDIT* It was suggested that you must be a baron to have attack capability and you would only be able to attack baron and above afterwards thus providing safety to the uninitiated until they were ready.

    Thanks for reading.

Another player suggested that you should be able to select 2 cities to be your capitals. These cities would be colonizable only, unless it is a historic city. All others would be able to be attacked. You would have to set conditions about setting your capitals, but I think this would be a good addition.

I also like the idea that a specific rank allows attack capability. However, I would make it an independent ranking structure that can only go positive based on troop amounts. Thus there would be no hiding of the player's true capability.

I think the combination of the buttons will add to game play.

I think Jurnis hit the nail on the head.

The colonizing feature is awesome, and thwarts the 'join my alliance or lose all your cities' threats that push a lot of casual Age I players out of the game. However, attacking is what makes the game fun. One of the main things that has helped build the friendships and bonds made in alliances, is when people have had to to help another player survive an all out assault (or had to beg for help), and then helping them get revenge. Attacking another person's cities vs attacking npcs is what makes this game better then the multitude of other RTS city/empire games out there. I think limiting attacks to only among higher prestige players, or if they have certain titles, would be the best thing.

I did not the declaration 'warning' at first, but, I have warmed up to it and just think it adds another aspect to the game.
