Now here are some suggestions and a final thought re Age II changes:
1. Instead of a "Decline" button on the hero quests (where you donate resources, army, etc to the King or Queen's cause), make it a "POSTPONE" button, so that players have the option of putting off the quest until they are in better shape. Right now the only choice is to lose the quest permanently or put up with that blinking button for however many days or weeks it takes for you to feel comfortable letting those items go.
2. If being able to "postpone" a hero quest is not an option, then how about making these quests unavailable at least until the player is out of BP? This would avoid having new players who only just reached 200k food having to give it up, or decline (and permanently lose) the quest.
3. All of the colonization items are basically ruses that have no real usefulness - making it a waste of money to buy them. Furthermore, you'd have to be clairvoyant to use the defensive items effectively, since they are mostly an attempt to disguise your army/resources from scouts, and you never know when a scout attempt will occur. As always, it's far more useful to have open gates, tons of scouts to kill off scouting parties, and a huge army to deter any attacks. So my suggestion here is to eliminate or change these items to things that are actually useful.
4. Hiring Mercenaries - this was a good idea in principle, but the execution leaves much to be desired. For instance, when you look at the list, the information given doesn't tell you important things like WHERE the fight is going to be (not even which state), who the target is, or what kind of force is needed. So you will end up with a lot of small players hoping to make a few game coins by taking on missions they can't possibly win - hurting both them and the person who was hoping for help. Therefore, the suggestion here is to put a lot more detail into this, so that the person looking for a "job" knows what they are applying to do, where it needs to be done, and what kind of army they need to be successful at it.
FINAL COMMENT:
Right now, if Age II stays as it is, I will never take the deal to move from Age I to Age II. It's not worth it - and if we are forced to do that, I will quit playing for good.
I want to be able to attack unallied players, fight real wars, and know what kind of army I'm facing.
I do NOT want to colonize anyone, or be colonized. I'd rather have my city taken and be able to go take it back without my enemy having his foot upon my neck the entire time.
I want to be able to make npc's around my city - not only for plunder, but for protection (to keep an enemy from being able to port themselves onto my doorstep) - and have them stay there.
I like the new graphics (to an extent), the new quests, lower food requirements, increased medal/item drop rates, and some aspects of linking with Facebook. But I do not like ANY of these things enough to overcome my dislike of colonization, hero limits, npc removals, and most of all - the lack of an ATTACK button.
So, next time you all consider changing Evony, please apply the following rule to all your deliberations on what to change/"improve" and what to leave alone:
If it ain't broke - don't fix it.
