In Age II, you colonize your enemy, making him your vassal. You then get 10% of his production of every resource for as long as you can keep him from winning an uprising. You can also conscript a percentage of one troop type, or take additional resources, or disarm some of his troops, etc once per day.

The difference from Age I is that in Age I, you could only take/hold 10 cities, based on your title. In Age II, you can have multiple colonies for every city, so in addition to the cities you own outright, you can have many more colonies providing resources for those cities.

But it's not the same, and in my opinion - it's not nearly as enjoyable either.
