Thread: Hero Gear research mats drops

Double checked with a lot of people in Server9, and it seems that the materials and the Mich Scripts/Armor scripts have also been turned off in joy.

So the question is this- how many attack reports do we have to gather and bombard Evony with before it goes from a "variance" To a genuine issue about a possible change in gameplay Mechanics?

I can confirm from NA7 that a few days ago (maybe a week ago), drop rates for treasure (random drops) has plummeted maybe by 20x. I have gotten one random drop today (holy water). Previously, I would get a couple dozen random drops a day. Drop rate for medals and gems seems to have stayed the same.

I'm not complaining about this (Evony has to make their money somehow), but it has certainly happened. Get your medals and gems before they drop those rates, too!

I do not know if it is an argument about making money FW; if it was I would suggest they take a look at basic Econ101 which says that they should find the equilibrium between supply and demand- not tweak the code writing to make 0 supply.

If it is just a variance would it happen to just those items, across all servers? If they honestly made the change, why wouldn't they just announced it with the many little patches they tell us about?

The idea, the Genius of Evony is that it was "Free Forever" Someone could be the top player in a server if they put in the extra time, without putting a dime in. Now; the argument is if that player matters to Evony, I really don't know.

For AgeII, this has been taken away. Now, you HAVE to buy Armor Scripts and materials in order to upgrade your hero, or else you have a very very low (As low as their drop rate) of being successful.

I'm not sure it's about money either. They could have just done it at the beginning of the servers to get players hooked.

And they make LOTS of changes without making announcements. Most of the changes are minor (they announce relatively few of them).

One of the nice features of Age II is commission quests, which means without paying you can get coins. Unfortunately, commission quests have never worked.

If you flip a coin 3 times in a row, and it comes up Heads, you cannot tell if the coin is rigged or not. The reason you cannot tell, is that the sample size is too small - it could just be random chance (or "simple variance" as Dawnseeker refers to it).

However, if you flip a coin 10,000 times in a row, and it comes up Heads, you know something is up. This is because the sample size is big enough to be Statistically Significant. I capitalized that term because it's very important. The number of flips where you know the coin is rigged is probably smaller than 10,000, I believe you can google "Standard Deviation" and figure out the formula to use, if you care.

I just went another day, and zero amulets have droppped. I have not counted all the reports again. Over 100 war reports 3 days in a row, this is not random chance.

Hero materials stopped dropping a few days before the start of this thread (april 25th approximately) and still do not drop. Amulets stopped dropping sometime near the weekend, if I had to take an educated guess, it was the Saturday afternoon emergency maintenance to stop the barracks/troop bug, but I have no data at all to back this up.

I have no idea what I said in the other thread, to get the entire thread deleted, but I apologize. If something in this post is offensive, please modify this post, and I can compare it with my saved copy, so it doesn't happen again.

EDIT: Sorry, this entire thread is referring to NPC attacks. Amulets still drop in Player vs Player attacks (if other conditions are met).

    Thanks for reading!
If you want to go down the statistics rathole, I'll indulge you to a point.
    • You don't know the drop rate for any item, so it is impossible for you to calculate the standard deviation, or even approximate it.
    • You're not aware if the drop rate of items may vary based on the level or type of the valley, flat or NPC.
    • The numbers from a single player (you) or a small sampling of players (those on the forums) are not representative in any way of the entire population.
    • Furthermore, a sample must be randomly taken from the population to be valid, so the sample is not even valid to begin a statistical analysis.

You would need to know all these factors (which you don't) and to obtain a random sampling of players from the population (which you can't) in order to perform such a statistical analysis.

Since that is not possible, it is not true or valid to claim that there is a statistical pattern based on forum posts or what people are saying in world/alliance chat. You simply don't have even close to enough information to make such a claim.

All that said, I've put in a request to check on this and when I hear back, I'll report it here.

I am so glad that we can get a non snarky, non rude response to these concerns.

Should we send a completel days worth orf reports, as well as get as many people also in order to get a better smapling?

I would also like to make a point that many people seem to be overlooking. Evony (like every gaming company) is a business and our goal is to turn a profit. If we don't make a profit, there is no game. If you think profiting from a business is greedy, wrong, or evil, then you're going to be disappointed with far more in life than just this game, because profits are the fuel of the world economy.

The decisions we make about the game are business decisions. We want our players to be happy, but all the happy players in the world don't help us if we go broke. We have to earn revenue and we do that by encouraging players to buy items. If everything could be obtained easily for free, there would be no incentive to buy items, no revenue for this company, and no Evony, because we would have to shut down.

We work hard every day to improve our player's experiences through a wide variety of means. We merge old servers to increase player interactions, we continue to support Age I and Age II simultaneously despite substantially increased costs in doing so, we constantly update and improve the game on a daily basis and we interact with our players to incorporate your suggestions and ideas into the game. All of these things cost money and don't earn us a penny. We do them because we are serious about making our players happy.

By the way everything in the game can be obtained for free. That alone is incredible. Virtually no other business gives away a product it sells and lets its customers decide whether to buy it or get it for free. The idea that this business model is called "greedy" is absurd. No one has to buy anything and many of our top players never have.

If instead of considering the game as a whole, people want to attack the one aspect that directly affects our ability to earn the revenue that allows this entire game to exist, that is unfair and just plain wrong, and its not going to continue to happen on these forums.

Agreed that Evony has to make their money. And no doubt I think it's great that you can play (and win) without spending money.

And again, I want to point out that I'm not complaining, just pointing out an observation (for which, admittedly, I have done no rigorous statistical analysis).

All that said, Evony is MUCH more fun to play when treasure drops more frequently. I'm sure this is true for both paying and non-paying players.

This is not an argument about how this business should be profitiable. Of course it should, and most everyone genuinly wants this game to be profitable and continue.

But here is the larger issue that I believe you are missing, whether the case is about the drop rate (Which is incredibly low) and Basic economics, and how all this ties together.

You have arbitrarily changed the rates, then you are claiming player stupidity (in an insulting way) by saying that all of us who have noticed the exact same thing is not a large enough sampling, and that we are just complainig for the sake of complaining. You have decided to change your game (AgeII) enough that those who support YOUR BUSINESS has pretty much abandoned those servers, cannot be enticed to pay more money for coins, and so are now at a point where they feel that the Evony game has ran its course.

You changed your business model by deciding to make it Facebook mandatory for AgeII- A serivce that is completely free and who, guess what, only entices people who really just want to play for free.

Your company made the decision; as well as the decision to take nearly every suggestion that true paying players have made for months and months. I do not have to be a math whiz or an insider to take a gander at your balance sheets to see what has been happening.

You guys made these decisions to change your business model. Would you rather entice people to spend because they want to, or because they HAVE to pay money to have a shot at the game, because that is what you have done.

I am a paying player, I bought coins in AgeII despite the problems, the glitches, the loss of game coins from the glitches. We have all tried logic, begging, cajoling; joking. Everything, all to no avail. You want to be profitable, We all want you to be profitiable. But whos fault is it if you have had 20 million people take a look at your game, and 19.8 million walk away dissatisfied by the changes?

This is not an attack, it is a plea. We all love this game, we all feel that we have a part of it. It is a social network site. Some of these people have become friends that I chat on the phone with, that we communicate with for over a year. You have a rabid fan base and yet, you are the one making these decisions.
