The way I view it, its just using different words to express yourself. After being in the Marines for 4 years, cursing and racial slurs really don't affect me, and it amuses me when people around me apologize for it.
I used to curse all the time just because it was an easy way for people to understand your intensity on a subject, or just to make a joke about something. In the environment I was in it was very rare to go an hour without hearing multiple people swearing about something or at someone.
When I transitioned back to the civilian world though, I had to bite my tongue alot since I was accustomed differently and had to readjust.
It still comes pretty easy for me, but I don't have to watch myself anymore and think about what I'm going to say.
My question is, who made these words "bad" in the first place, and why are they so? Is it because of their sound? The meaning behind them? Its very easy to find alternative words to express the same meaning yes, but why are some words "better" than others?
