Default Art of writing love letters has been lost

The art of writing love letters has been lost and it is tragic. The younger generation thinks text messages suffice So this is what inspired me to write this essay

When wanting a happy relationship, one thing to do to keep the fire burning is to give your loved one a love letter. In the 21st century people have forgotten how to write effective love letters to their loved one. The art has been lost. Advances in technology have made them obsolete. Today people text, email, or call; these methods do not stir passionate emotions. With only one hour or so of the writer’s time he or she can write a love letter to get closer to his/her lover. There are several tips and steps one can use to write a love letter.
Before writing take out scrap paper and start writing notes. Think about the feelings to express to your loved one. Ponder on specific details to mention in the letter. Like special memories shared together and times looking forward to spending together. Tell about the emotions felt when with your sweetheart. Take a night too sleep on the ideas to mention. Keep writing the love letter over and over on scrap paper until its perfected.
Do not only write love letters for Valentine’s Day or their birthday. Write a love letter because it’s Monday. Receiving it makes an ordinary day a special day, but can lose the impact if sent on a “hallmark day.” Do not send them too often either, because they will not be as special if the receiver expects them.
Being descriptive and creative is very important. Take an idea from the notes and tell exactly the emotions felt at that specific instance. Saying “I love you” is nice but kind of boring. Find a unique way of saying the same thing. Like in the movie Jerry McGuire Tom Cruise’s Character says “You complete me.” It doesn’t matter what the words are as long as it’s something special between both of you. Like in the movie Ghost, Patrick Swayze’s character, Sam says “ditto” every time Demi Moore’s character Molly would tell him “I love you.” Only Molly knew what “Ditto” meant but it does not matter as long as she knew what the meaning was.
A love letter is supposed to be intimate, so get personal. Write about what specifically is so lovable about them and what drives you wild about their personality. Tell her how she looks attractive without getting to graphic. Always remember to write from the heart. Without heart in the letter than it’s pointless and meaningless. Add photos to the love letter, photos with both of you are the best. A picture of a loved one at a place with shared memories is ideal. If both go hiking a lot at Mount Rainer include a picture from there. Any photo that has a common experience is good. If no photos with both people can be found. Then include a couple of pictures with your self in it.
When finished writing the letter in best of penmanship seal the letter with wax. This is a simple task, melt a bit of candle wax and drip it on the letter, in a circular shape about a quarter in size. The post office has personalized stamps with the theme of love. It would not hurt to pick one out. Address the envelope and put a return address label on. Wait a day or two there might be a possibility of a change of heart or wanting to change something in the letter. After sending wait for a response, you might even get a love letter back.
Think back to the emotions felt the last time you received a personal letter in the mail. Imagine the feeling your sweetheart will feel when they go to the mail and instead of finding junk mail finds a love letter. A well written love letter is sure to bring a smile to their face and enhance the relationship.

sad side note, sealing wax does not survive the mailing process. if using it, hand deliver.

Ahhh...luv tis in the air...birds twitterpated...dogs sniffin tha air...cats caterwalin in the distance...sneakin love notes to your sweetie in tha mailbox *which is NOT a felony as long as you do not OPEN/DAMAGE/TAMPER someone's mail with personal intentions*

Cute thread, I must say. But you are right. Writing IS a lost art. Most obvious is the grammer/spelling used these days. Kids wouldn't know what to DO if directed to WRITE out a LETTER of ANY sort, let alone a LOVE LETTER Its rather unfortunate and sad to see. Their ideas of 'love' nowadays I shudder to THINK! And YES I do speak from experience having raised SIX kids...the youngest bein 16. Lost indeed!

*hops off n goes back to Kings...this made me need a DRINK!!!*

I thought mix-tapes were the modern day love letters, or is that outdated now?
The trouble with love letters is trying to find a way to express how you feel about someone without it sounding like a cliche. Being original is almost impossible as there seems to be a certain structure and form to such romantic gestures that dictates substance. Indeed, the substance can quite often be of less importance than the gesture itself.

Aye...tis true. However, as sun pointed out, when it comes from the HEART, cliche` just falls to the wayside. And if written correctly, the world and ALL it's cliche's shall melt away leavin the reader to feel all warm n fuzzy inside. jmho
