Ok guys I am a total noob to Evony so I expect to get totally flamed here.
However I have been wargaming 30+ years. (Yes even before internet)
It seems to me that the very basis of the combat system of Evony is major league flawed.
A prime example is the "Rainbow" attack. Surely sending MORE troops in a combined assault taking far more casualties is completely skewed and wrong. While one sacrificial guy can hold off an entire enemy army for a while, allowing archers to fire multiple times for free? There are other silly things like the one scout one cavalry followed by cataphracts attacks.
Clearly screens for archers is a valid historical technique. However 1 warrior does not a screen make.Also when sending cavarly with troops it seems they attack first directly into the enemy face, without support and taking 100% casualties? I am guessing it is speed issue. However this also seems completely skewed. Sure there are times you may want to attack the archers..pinning them so the main body can attack....however the basic combat system is so flawed there doesnt seem to be any realistic way to use battle tactics. I get it, they designed various speeds and various ranges to allow battle tactics. However the system as it runs now is NOT even close to balanced or working at all. A complete rethink of the battle mechanics is needed.
My second beef is PVP. I have found out that conquers are not going to be possible PVP. Instead we have some strange "colony" system in which the enemy automatically calls a % reinforcements when attacked? I am not sure exactly how this works but I see all kinds of abuses here.
I am told the new system is to prevent "Bullies" from conquering all your villages. Instead they can colonize them, apparently a kinder gentler way to beat you up?
Finally tech bonuses. Yes technology can improve crop production or construction strength and times. It can increase the range of missle weapons. But no ammount of technology is going to make a warrior charge into battle faster than a charging horse!
Come on guys! You have a framework for a very nice game here. However anything that limits real PVP combat certainly dulls the game down a LOT!
I hear this is a change from Evony I......well that change is certainly not good. If the game is unbalanced allowing "bullies" well then balance it! Dont just out of the blue say "sorry you cant attack and conquer other players..only NPC"Surely a play balance team can come up with PVP modifiers for new spawned players that still allows equal ranked players to have fun battling it out?
